If it gets worse i may rma it, but the cards still doing it job so it may end up coming back to me, with a note saying nothings wrong. :(

I'm assuming you have a rattling HIS ICEQ3? If you are ever going to RMA it, you should do so now while you are still within your 28 day window with OverclockersUK. Quite a few others have had the same problem and returned their cards because of it. Of course they're your ears.

As far as the black screen issue goes (also assuming HIS here), temps were not the problem. It was happening to me with 2 different cards at 53-54C under load.

Well i can't rma it back to OCUK as i'm outside the 28 days, its been in my pc for 3 weeks, but i bought the card before that. I was waiting for some other parts before i could install it.

Its not real loud but its noticeable above the other things in my pc. If i'm playing a game or something then i can't hear it. But if it gets worse then i'll have to see about it going back to HIS or something.

Ah well just one final bump, should be some new ATI cards out in the next few days, hopefully there will be something nice in the £100-£130 price range, failing that I hope the X1950Pro gets a decent price cut, £75 new would be great!

This is a thread i can ask this question in i hope :)

Im caught atm on waht to do for an upgrade, a defo temptation is the 256mb Powercolor extreme X1950 card, im running on a 19in widescreen tft which is 1440x900res. CPU wise i have a 3200+ and 1gb of DDR400 all on a DFI RDX200 board (Crossfire ;))

my question is, would any of you recommend still going for one of these over say an 8800 gts as a sensible option, the price is the biggest factor for me more than anything so at sub £100 (ive found an xpertvision 1.1ns 512mb card for £94 too) it sounds like a bargain, would love to crank stuff up to a decent AA etc as my 7600 GS just cant do it either

so would it make sense?

I know there is the DX10 question too, but im not sure if need it or not.

Yes it would.

There are some new ATI cards coming out this very second so it will be worth checking out some feedback on those but a X1950Pro for under £100 is great value for money. Spend a bit more and get a X1950XT, any more than that and your into 8800GTS turf.

nVidia have the 8600GT cards out but I don't know much about them apart from they cost about £150 ish?

Last time I checked the X1950XT was a better bet than an nVidia 8600GT.

The res you are running is not too demanding but then again it depends what games you are wanting to play?

I'm a bit gutted now as my HIS X1950 Pro 256mb pci-e (rev1) card died (or appears to have died) yesterday.

For the first 3 months this card was perfect (unlike a fair few of the others) but 2 weeks ago I started getting artefacts when switching external views in IL2 1946 and the odd black screen instead of a desktop on startup. I downclocked it first and it was fine again still blitzing all the games I threw at it (il2, 2142, bf2, arma) then yesterday black screen on desktop each and every time I tried to get it started.
Checked power connections, switched a few around (antec sonata II 450w truepower psu and case) and fan still spins up, get display right until desktop and then it just outputs black, power saving kicks in as normal and monitor shuts down but still from a black screen so I guess I'll have to return this to HIS or OCUK?

Just no idea what to get next, either a standby or an upgrade.

System specs are 6400 cpu, 2gig dual chan geil 6400 ram, 160gig samsung hdd on a DS3 mobo. Suggestions? (budget upto £150+ whatever I can sell the replacement 1950 pro for).

I've just picked up an 512Mb HIS version of these for my aging agp system as I still have a pretty fast processor for it's age and have been well impressed with the performance compared to my previous HIS X850XT PE IceQ.

Can run oblivion 1920x1200 with acceptable framerates (20-35 out in the open, but much more elsewhere) and most other games run really well at native res too.

It's a rev.2 card (with the 590 default clock) so hopefully they may have done something to fix the fan too?! Fingers crossed anyway.

i just picked up a 512mb x1950 GT Ltd Edition, comes with 1.1ns memory and 500/1400 stock clocks, cost me £86.99 delivered :D....£65inc trade in of my 7600 back to the guy i get my cards from :)

Bad thing i have atm, is that i have installed card, runs windows desktop apps fine such as photoshop etc, but in games and ATi tool it is artifacting badly, my initial thougts are im only running a 380w enermax psu so is the card not getting enough juice to it? +12v no:1 is 14a and +12 no:2 is 13a.

same me could bother to get new 8800 or 2900 because i think no point of going now for top card when another 3-4moths will be newer stuff...
so i have got a fast question which are the best drivers for the card under Winxp ? Can i use the new cat 7.5 ? or better to find other ones

Sent my card back and received a new one within 24hrs via special delivery...THATS SERVICE!. original card was faulty, this one is fantastic! doesnt miss a beat :D

had a quick play with clock rates last night and got to 600/1580mhz without any issues, gonna get some Zalman ramsinks asap as supposedly this memory will hit 1.8ghz....SCHWWEEEET!

have u installed extra power connector to your radeon?

I'm thinking about getting a 1950pro AGP. What brand would everyone recommend?

I was thinking about a Sapphire version, but read that there CS is appaling and charge an Admin fee to process an RMA, which then goes to Hong Kong. So not too sure about them now.

Seen there was problems with the HIS 1950's a few months, but whats the story like with them now? Are the Rev 3's stable?

Thanks.
