As title ! Iv been pondering for ages about getting one, for the OSX support and the 'look' etc etc, the ONLY MAJOR thing stopping me is I have a insane high end pc now, that id probably not get much for, current setup:

3.4ghz Quad core 2
8gb ram
raptor drives + about 1tb of storage
24" dell 2407
ATI 3650
xfi

And occasionally:

IBM R50E 1.7ghz p-m, 2gb laptop

Id either get a macbook pro 17" model ( i usually work from home, but lately been finding im away from my house more), or an imac 24" 3.06ghz, as for the mac pro 8core, that would be the only true upgrade.

Thing is a macbook pro, id still end up spending hundereds even after selling my stuff for what essentially is a massive downgrade, but then id like the portability, and im fed up of the current 'clutter' of stuff everywhere

My main use is : photoshop, lightroom, image editing and processing

More of a 'your thoughts' thread, than a 'I need to decide now' situation.

What think ?

The iMac would suit your needs, but so would a MacBook Pro.

As far as laptops go, it's a fast laptop and the 17" is nice for on-the-move work as the screen is big, but it never feels too big to lug around (it's 2cm x 2cm bigger than the 15" MBP)

If you want to save money, get the iMac with loads of RAM. It won't feel like too much of a downgrade. The 3.0GHz models are screamers.

Well I am a mac newbie, and loving the experience totally. I have barely touched the PC recently.

I have a macbook (black one) and that feels pretty nippy actually, so I can only imagine how nice those 3ghz imacs are!

If you went Mac Pro...couldn't you use that awesome drive setup you have in the Mac Pro?
