With The One Show on in the background, I perked up when they talked about legally challenging a competitor after the console died after 1.5 years - they managed to receive a replacement from the retailer.

Here is a link, with 2 forms for helping to return the console if anyone is having any problems. Just thought some people with dead consoles might want to know :)

I imagine they will recognise the template and give a replacement no question.

i'd read the comments below where somebody who claims to work for a retail outfit gives you all the information that you need.

however if your lucky these letters might work. Personally i throw the item away if they give any resistance and then never buy any of the same brand products again and avoid the retailer as much as possible, However i realise not everybody is able to do that.

According to a mate whos doing law, the length of time considered 'acceptable' is relative to the cost.
In the example given on the show - thats why flipflops which break are not covered past any initial guarentee.

In the case of a £200 console, a satisfactory length of time is 14-16 months, longer then this and you stand no chance in a court.

-edit-

duno how correct this is btw, but he just pointed out in the text books where this is stated and its pretty clear that he's right.
Unless law books are also printing mis-information.

strange that, thread tittle is about faulty 360, yet most replies in the link are about failed ps3's...

anyway.... if it is based on cost, would you stand a better chance with a £300 dead ps3 over a £130 360?

Well you would expect PS3 to last longer with it being over 50% more expensive and sony's 10 year plan relateing to the machine.

I'm in a bit of a dodgy situation. I got my Xbox Elite in Sept 08 from Woolworths. The CD drive has broken, so I registed online only to find out the warranty ran out in march?? I guess they do it from when the Xbox was shipped to Woolworths? Any way, they asked for proof of purchase, all I had was a bank stament showing a large amount on woolworths the day I said I got it. Doesn't say Xbox or anything? Hopefully it will go through, waiting for a response, but I'm not sure what to do if they say no.
