Still to test it fully, but the quality of the build is by far the best I have experienced for a graphics card..
Just got my MSI Gaming 1070 8G, what an upgrade from the Gigabyte WindForce OC.
Thankfully I've won the coil whine lottery twice, both had none.
The fans... my god the fans on this MSI are so much better than the Gigabyte.
I set a more aggressive custom fan curve to start at 50% at 50c and 100% at 80c.
In a run of Unigine Valley on Extreme HD preset it hit a max of 57c/61%/1514rpm.
The Gigabyte fans were obnoxious at 60% and these are as quiet as my Noctua's!
I also flashed the Gaming X 8G BIOS to my non-X 8G.
This gave 100mhz more boost for a max of 1999.5mhz according to GPU-Z.
I had to used a cached version of the page to obtain it since they took down the BIOS for the 1070 Gaming X, yet the 1080 Gaming X BIOS is still available for some reason.
I'll likely be flashing the 1070 Gaming Z BIOS when it becomes available.
Another way the MSI is better than the Gigabyte is 8+6pin vs single 8-pin.
I'm no longer getting pwr perfcaps and railing against a 111% TDP.
MSI AB has a limit of 126% with this card/BIOS and in a run of Valley it maxed at 72.4% TDP.
The only perfcap left so far is VRel which goes for all Pascal, only modded BIOS will solve this.
I'm just so happy with the silence and how cool it runs. Quieter and cooler, by a lot.
I don't know why MSI retracted the Gaming X BIOS from the support area...
I hope they continue providing the updated BIOS there, so I can get the Gaming Z BIOS or any possible updates.
They have a BIOS update tool, but it said my BIOS was up to date on both.
I was expecting it to recommend the previous BIOS, the intended BIOS for my card after I flashed to the Gaming X. But apparently it's fine and up to date.
I doubt the tool will give me access to anything but future non-X 8G BIOS updates unfortunately.
Anyways I'm going to go start overclocking. It's already superior to my last 1070 so even if I can't get a single mhz more out of it I'm alright.
Finally bit the bullet.
What did you choose Raikiri ?
2 things
1 - download 4.3.0 beta 4, that one is built for pascal cards. https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.html
2 - in the settings there is an option to enable voltage monitoring, enable it then restart afterburner.
interesting, I did notice palit is a more bare box, so you dont get any cables, or adaptors, evga seem to give you some more extras,. but my palit card did come with covers for all the connectors and even for the pci-e connector as well.
my heaven score is 3083 (was 1755 on my 970)
