The Pascal GTX 1080 Owners Thread

Hi guys,

I got a 1080 GTX MSI Armor OC for x-mas along with a Seasonic Prime 750W Titanium and have horrendous coil whine.

Is this likely to be something I can get replaced or do I have to put up and shut up?

Depends how bad you personally think it is. If its causing annoyance while gaming then consider returning it. If not and you can withstand it then keep it. Dont return it for the sake of it.

May also be worth checking what is making the noise. As it could easily be the PSU as well.

Both my FE cards make a bit of a racket at full load or v-sync off. But its nothing that bothers me and i cant hear it while gaming.

I had an old ATi 7970 that had a pretty bad ticking noise but this is on another level of irritating. As soon as you're off the windows desktop and a game is loading it is clearly audible.

Hey guys, does anyone know if the Gigabyte G1 1080 Gaming card is compatible with H-CUPERTINO2-H61-uA TX motherboard? I would appreciate any reply. I have the card and it's not going past POST however it has no problem running R9 390X.

Well I'm pretty sure that my 1080 Classified is suffering from the faulty VRM issue, Ingame it keeps black screening, Fans rev up to 100% and then resetting.

Time to test EVGA's legendary customer support.

They have been very good for me over the last 2 months, though never solved the coil whine issue. Choose the advanced RMA so I never had to be GPU less. Never had to pay for shipping however I'll lose money cause the collateral is paid via paypal in euros.

Never solved the issue though, with retrospect should have kept the Founders card I bought off you.

That card was sold lower then Distribution price, meaning they took the hit when selling the cards. Once off , although they did hit £549 which would be break even almost

That usually points to needing a BIOS update however, I did come across this when I did a quick search.

If the BIOS update doesn't fix your issue, there's no harm in trying. I have no idea about that motherboard though so this method below is beyond me. I hope you get it sorted.

From the info in that video:

"More info has become available during these months. You can just press Alt + F10 to boot it without the crackling noise. Pressing F12 without touching Esc also seems to work for some.
Simply just pressing F1 works, too."

I thought that was sorted a month ago? My EVGA 1080 FTW is amazingly cool after thermal pads installed. Couldn't be happier

Well I got the thermal pads, Installed them exactly how the instructions and video said to, Was running fine up until about 2 weeks ago when I started getting black screens, Fan revving to 100% etc....

Not a big deal, Doing an advanced RMA so won't be without
