This is crashing at stock? is it a full block your using?

Possibly a faulty card unless its still crashing because of high temps?

EK Supremacy HF universal block and numerous heatsinks over the VRM.

After trying the stock aircooler with MX-2 the card no longer crashes.

This makes little sense. Maybe it was sagging too much under the weight or there's a bad trace somewhere.

Possibility, VRAM, VRM cooled via fan as well? Any reason you went that route over a full cover block?

If it is a bad trace (unlikely). Best bet is get an EK full cover block and backplate. Cools core, vrms and VRAM. Not to mention looks a lot better, are rock solid and will keep the pcb clamped nice and square.

Is it normal for these 1080GTX cards to reach 98C under load in MSI Kombustor in roughly 4 seconds with ice cold water flowing over the core with a freshly acid cleaned shiny VGA block?
Got the same results twice after rebuilding with EVGA paste and then AS5. Way too hot to risk using it. I've never seen temps above 60C on a GPU before.

My Palit 1080 is OC'd to 2000mhz and never goes above 70 degrees. Ever. Thats with the default fan profile of never turning on until it reaches 60 degrees as well.

It's much better now.
The air cooler is holding at 62C at 2015mhz stock according to Afterburner. Getting decent FPS at 4K so far.
I don't think getting a full-cover waterblock for it is worth it, certainly not this late after release and given these cards barely OC at all.

Hi guys, seriously considering a 1080 as an upgrade to my Xfire 280x's now that I'm gaming on 1440p144. Quite like the look of the EVGA FTW card, are there any others I should be looking at? Looking to spend around £650 maximum really. Thanks.

Got the 1080 put into the loop yesterday and I'm loving it so far. Playing DCS last night it was boosting to 1936mhz straight out of the box. Can't wait to start overclocking her and see what she can do. Temps were good to sitting around 38-40c at load.

Had a little play last night and managed to put 100mhz on the core with 105% PL, which gives me a boost 2025. Also what is a good PL percentage for an everyday oc, I mean would it be safe to run it at 120% 24/7

I believe increasing the Power Limit is not bad and is actually recommended to be turned up to max, 120-125% when trying to OC then dial it back.
I believe its the over voltage that it considered to be bad and is better to be kept minimum.

Correct me if im wrong though, not exactly the best OCer in town

Together they are running happily at 2102mhz with memory at 11ghz. Seperate they both run at about 2132mhz.

2.1ghz is absolutely fine for me. Temps are low 40s at max. Also happy with this considering its about 30c in here at the minute. Lovely day today hense the late photo, Barbeque and ice cold beer's, nothing better

ok found my limit and it is +210 on the core which gives a boost of 2138 and then+500 on the memory with PL at 120%. temps are 40-44 under load. happy days

What would be the best 1080 that would not give coil whine? Ive got a Strix thats pretty bad - i dont want to switch it out to something else if its going to be similar, its really annoying as its the only thing in my pc that makes any noise at all!

It's a bit of a lottery tbh with cards and your pc setup. Noticed whine in a GTX 1080 in my media pc that wasn't present in my main pc. Same PSU manufacturers but diff wattage. Both 'gold' PSU's.

Ive just had Overclockers swap out my Superflower 750 titanium psu and the buzzing remains so i think its defo the GPU.

Finally I can join the club

Boosted to 2025 out the box, and currently running +100/+450 with great results. Very happy with it.
