Fail, fail epic fail on ~~my part~~ geforce experience. It had set my games beyond native resolution, e.g BF1 was running 175% of 2560x1440. No wonder it was strugling lol! Problem solved

Anyone have any ideas where to look for a coil whine free GTX 1080ti?
I sold my "old" gigabyte founders 1080ti for coilwhining like crazy.
I run 560 rad with 500rpm fans wich are the loudest part of the system, D5 vario is running @ speed 2 wich is the max, I can use without hearing it.
I thought going for EVGA and just keep trading it in until I get one that is SILENT as a rock, they responded to my coilwhine query:

If the card has coil whine in multiple systems we would be happy to exchange it, however since a combination of hardware can produce a coil whine we cannot guarantee that an exchange of cards would resolve the issue. However if testing in another system is not possible we would exchange the card as a troubleshooting step.

You will find it hard. As every Ti I have had (which is several cards) has had some form of whine. Some worse than others.

The FE and ref boards are terrible though and were much louder than an AIB from experience.

So this was my previous gigabyte founders 1080ti, coilwhining like crazy, is there any point in buying other 1080ti models that are founders or based on ref pcb, hoping to hit a jackpot with a card that is as silent as a rock ? Or should I only look towards custom models ? When I can hear it it`s too loud, the rest of my system is running so silent I cant hear it when it`s sitting next to me on an open case ( fans never go above 500rpm and D5/vario is @ 2/5 )

FE are known for their coil whine.

AIB cards are generally quieter from experience although they all still have it in some form.

I dont see why this is acceptable, if I am paying 800€ for a GPU I would hope to get a quality product.

Personally I feel the same way and have returned Ti's before because of it. listening to your video it's not as bad as my FE was. Especially as your case is open.

My FE cards were horrific. Movement in game was like a squealing cat and they could be heard over speakers in an enclosed case.

It can be down to a lot of things. PSU, card, even the motherboard.

Power usage and overclocks also play a huge part from experience.

But generally while the FE is a good card vrm wise it's power delivery and choke quality isn't brilliant and an AIB far beats it in that regard.

I have tried different cards, different motherboards, different powersupplies, even different places/buildings, even tried a 1080 on another continent ( usually live in europe, but hey 1080 whined the same in australia aswell, not the same card but still. )

My case is very average for cooling. And I have an old (8years) but still going strong 850w PSU.

Are the FE editions loud? Do they get hot?

Ideally they need a custom block or hybrid cooler.

Yes they get hot and loud due to the poor FE cooler. 84c on their stock fan profile.

Definitely worth it to spend the extra on an AIB card. Better power delivery as well as generally being far cooler/quieter and running a little faster clocks.
