Knock-on effect...

A thread elsewhere led me to impulse buy an Oculus Rift... Even though I remain unconvinced about VR.

A consequent look at some of the games' recommended specs had me getting the GPU upgrade itch (from r9 290x)...

So I bought an Aorus Xtreme 1080ti

For 4K gaming and VR.

It comes with a decent factory overclock but I can't help but feel a little disappointed I can only apply another +30 on the core, +485 on memory. Voltage and power limit all the way up. Should I be?

PC crashes and reboots when more applied. Stability testing with 3dMark Time Spy. Score 7739, with a 4770K at 4.4GHz and a Superflower 1000W Platinum PSU.

Edit:
Firestrike Extreme score 11438. That has it sitting in with OCed 1080s in the bench thread. Should be capable of more, right?

Take a look at what your clock speed actually runs at. When your applying the +30 MHz, that is in addition to boost 3.0 doing its thing so your clock speed will be significantly higher then what is on the box and you may believe. Most 1080Ti's if running reasonably cool will land in the 2000 region - 2100 MHz region on the core, with few samples either side of that.

Temporary flex tube run for the CPU. Water block and back plate in the new year for the GPU.
With the case window off and when not under load, this card puts out some very cold air!

I just had a quick look in the Cryptocurrency section there. A thread with photos of four Gigabyte 1080ti on a BTC motherboard. It was like looking at Elephants in the circus, it's just not right.

I hope the BTC price crashes through the floor soon... the... the.. monsters.

Heaven used to test. 1080 ti auros OC extreme.

Came out of the box at 2037 core cold. 1990ish under load. Reacts like no other part I have owned to heat the core will drop making oc pointless uness you set fan aggressive. At which point I held 2037/2050 core @ 61C under sustained load. Any higher is no good core drops.

Ram...I dont know if mine is magic. I have initally tested all my benches at 500. Zero problems. Issues started at 675. I m aware danger zone so checked repeatedly. 600 was my sweet spot.

Board...as above 10/10 - no, zero cap whine. No running noise. (see below)

Build...3/10..twice now I have had to tuck wires into the housing of the third fan. Plus the board on top (the auros "eagle") doesnt light up like I suspect it should. I could be incorrect here (emphasis) but it seems strange and I deeply suspect someone played with this before me and didnt put it back right.

Verdict...10/10 2050 sustained core 600 on mem. Puts me up into the 250 world rankings on heaven 1080p extreme.

The card is uttery silent and solid out of the box. 2037 core goes to 1988 and holds. If I up it by 2 lots (26) it can hold with a quite aggrssive fan profile (roughly linked 1 to 1 / fan to temp)

It is an excellent card. It probably isn't worth pushing it anymore for the sake of 1-2 extra fps vs. the increased noise.

Caporegime, thanks for the advice. Steps available on core are more than enough. 2050 will do. The ram is interesting. 650 holds. Its weird the card refers to temps not noise. It throttles with temp. Anything else you do is basically irrelevant and it is clearly operating well within its limits, volt up, clock up if you hit a certain arbirtary max the card will shut down. Am I the only person to find this strange?
