Yes non reference cards AKA AIB cards have different power delivery designs and also tend to have 2x8 pin power connectors. Thus usually meaning increase TDP. It means the power limit on aftermarket cards are higher than FE cards. FE cards have a 250Watt TDP increasing the power limit in something like afterburner to 120% increases the TDP to 300watts. People including my self have hit the TDP wall (powerlimit) in benchmarks and some games. AIB cards should suffer less from this or not at all seen as they have higher TDPs though some don't list them or still list them as 250 when its far from the truth lol.
Yep, I've tried numerous things with vsync off, most I've seen it hit of hand from what i can remember was about 93. Something % that was at 2050mhz boost basically flat out.i did have this power limit problem with my custom 980ti but resolved that with a bios flash, however i haven't seen it hit the limit on this amp extreme.
TW3 flat out will test it
Thanks OCUK
Look at your fan speed: 0%. 50C is normal if the fans are stopped. Try increasing it to 20% and it should drop to below 40C. The Gigabyte 980 G1's fans never stop spinning, so its idle temperature will be lower.
Really loving the STRIX Ti. Goes with the rest of my system well:
Originally had a FTW3 pre-ordered but glad I cancelled when stock of this beast became available.
generally speaking if your voltage limit is being hammered its probably just a poor chip.
best way to find out the best card between two is to underclock and undervolt at 1950mhz and see which chip needs what voltage to hit 1950 stable.
TW3 flat out will test it
Iam seeing 76c after a few hours gaming overclocked to 1950/6000, thats in a warm room with a silent case though. What kind of temperatures are people getting on the MSI 1080 Ti Gaming?
It's definitely better than my reference card but temperatures increase very quickly and I'm still almost hitting 80C.
Seems like it might be fine then. I'm hitting about 77C at stock in a Fractal R5.Iam seeing 76c after a few hours gaming overclocked to 1950/6000, thats in a warm room with a silent case though.

I drop about 7C by taking my side panel off, so I may have to rethink my case.
What kind of fan setup do you have? I've got 4 140mm fans.Using an R5 here with the MSI , stock settings temp showing 66.
Is the coil whine a thing for 1080ti, strictly speaking Strix OC?
After about 3 weeks of gaming on mine, the strange sounds became audible. most profoundly in ME: Andromeda, which is possibly the infamous whining. Wonder how OCUK deals with this.
