My PC on on all the time, I actually find it harder to sleep with it off, it's too quiet.

Every 10 dBA is double the noise.

Damn, look at what hits 90. I remember back in 1998 at one of the motocross tracks on a KX125 someone clocked me with the soundgun at 97dBA.

how common of an issue is the no signal on boot with the TI's?

I've had my Aorus extreme a week and its had this issue 6 times. I used Ddu before installing the gpu and have tried different ports but it is still reoccurring. it's pretty random sometimes works on cold boot other times no issue. Psu works fine with my 7970ghz so think the Psu should be ok.

update - The gpu is connected to an Asus PB278Q using display port cable which is Vesa certified.

Had this around a week a thoroughly impressed, just need to iron auto niggles with no signal on boot and all will be good.

Early tries using gigabyte software got about +50 on ocuk mode core, mem I got up to 11900ish using heaven to test for stability. max boost in heaven was around 2062.

Found the oc mode quite awesome and takes it close to what the card cam handle on air, I'm sure on water you could push these cards another further.

I found the OC mode to be a little conservative and way off the zotac. I added +65 to the core and +560 to the memory (can't get any more out of the core, memory might have some headroom). Stable in time spy stress tests, need to run a good few more. Custom fan curve (0% at 55 to 100% at 80) is keeping the card at 72Cish with an equal fan percentage. Boost keeps it 2025 at the very lowest, 2050 typically. Happy with that on air.

Even my blower style 1080Ti isn't that loud. I was expecting worse based on the opinions here...

On stock fan profile they aren't that bad. They are still louder than a good AIB though.

And if you want to keep below the targeted 84c then it starts to get very loud, quickly.

An AIB will be a couple hundred MHz faster and 15-20c+ cooler on stock fan profile.

Not to mention you don't get other features like fan stop etc.

Agreed, but the bonus of most of the heat exhausting the case it's probably worth the few extra decibels imo.

And on the default 23% fan it's silent.

Boost keeps it 2025 at the very lowest, 2050 typically. Happy with that on air.

Have reverted back to OC mode. Any more seems to gain little in performance considering the extra heat generated. So not as good as the zotac, but it will keep me going until the 2080Ti comes out.

So prices of 1080 for what I am looking at are around £520-535 depending on model.

I don't really need the power at all, but the £630 1080ti Gibbo has on special looks... almost worth it?

1440p display to go along with it.

Are we not fearing Volta tho, buying a 1080ti at this point in time?

£630 is a lot for a graphics card. But as above not that much more than a 1080.

Oh and a 850watt 9 year old Thermaltake PSU (still going strong) is OK?

Volta is not coming this year. And 1080ti is one hell of a card atm, as long as you're not trying to push for an unreleased 4k 144hz monitor.
If and when Volta comes, i dont think it'll be such a monumentous jump in performance unlike 980ti vs 1080ti.
Also again, with failure of AMD for high end, there's again no reason for NVIDIA to push the limit yet

I'm personally hoping that Titan Volta is a complete monster to justify a purchase!!!

Volta seems like it WILL be a monster. Biggest die ever and the most amount of transistors. New cores. Tensor? It's going to be a beast!

I hope it's a bit more. I've decided to get a refund on my 1080Ti, and just wait for Volta. 980Ti will last a while longer.
