****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

finally a price cut. But for me its a little to late as a long time playstation fan, i am enjoying my 360 so much, ive had the ring of death twice now but MS gave me a nice new console with a HDMI port which my old console didnt, so im happy :D.

One of the larger food retailers is selling the 80gb PS3 with a couple of games and a Blu-ray for £249.99 .....Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines on Blu–ray, the Terminator Salvation game, with Ghostbusters The Game or Infamous

I'm just hanging about for a lower-than-RRP price of the PS3 Slim. One place has got it on pre-order for £249.99 which is the RRP but I'd imagine some must be lower (or am I kidding myself getting it lower than RRP due to it being too new?). The PS3 Phat even with a price reduction just isn't cheap enough in comparison to the PS3 Slim.

I must admit though I didn't like the look of the Slim at first glace, but I'm getting more accustomed too it.

The fat PS3 was selling for as little at £260 a couple of months ago, i don't think it's too far fetched to expect retailers (specifically online retailers) to drop below the RRP

I could be tempted for around £220. Although unfortunately I've grown quite accustomed to my 360, despite the unreliability of them they still play the same games and in many cases the 360 plays the same games better. But then it would be nice to put my HDTV to proper use. I've not seen a HDDVD a Blu-Ray, or anything through this TV yet. :(

Ill probably get one eventually now I know it can use replacement HDDs as Ive got a 320Gb in mine already (doubt theyve allowed taller HDs to fit though). When I find one for £200 or my PS3 dies its instant buy - whichever comes sooner...

Just needs to be super quiet though - anyone notice any void if removed warranty stickers yet?

Annoyed its longer though as I have mind on a shelf and it already overhangs (the base just fits) so this one will do so even more...

You are kidding yourself :D I cannot think of any new consoles (or new variations) that would be sold at a discount from release date. Margins just aren't big enough (I think).

Yeah, but it has been out for ages.

You will not see this below £245 for at least 2 months I think. Bundles will appear around xmas, but I think the total price will still be 245-250 just with game/blu-ray/HDMI cable chucked in.

I feel exactly the same, I will buy one when my refurb PS3 dies.
I was just thinking about the fact it is longer, my phat PS3 barely fits on the glass shelf under the LCD, this one will overhang and with a 6 year old boy and soon to be born 2nd boy that puts the PS3 in the 'danger zone' :p

Just waiting for in depth comparison reviews regarding noise, compatibility etc..

[edit] I used to know someone that has a toyshop, he said he makes almost no money from selling a console, it's the accesoiries and games where he makes his money (much like Sony) so I doubt it will be sold lower than RRP for now[/edit]

Just waiting for in depth comparison reviews regarding noise, compatibility etc.

It's not really in-depth, but Engadget posted some "quick and dirty" noise comparisons:

With a baseline of 49 decibels, the Slim averaged 53 to 56 db when in use / playing a game / installing data (in this case, Metal Gear Solid 4), compared to the 55 to 58 db of the original. Blu-ray movie playback is where it becomes noticeable, as the slim peaked for us at 60 db when the original was doing 70 db running the same disc.

No doubt we wont ever see a £200 street price for the console alone, but I think with either official bundles (no doubt there will be an Uncharted 2, GT5 and GOW3 console box) or high street bundles Id be very surprised if we dont quickly see the £250 price point appear with 1/2 games and additional controller...

Too me thats the same difference and Ill probably be happy to part with my money - though not going to consider it until next year - my PS3 only coming to its 1st bday and its stupid to even consider replacing it at the moment...

That's a disappointment. I was hoping it would be quieter than that, but I guess it will be a case of try before you buy.

Any able to clear up a few things I'm reading? I'm not sure if they are true and I can't find any solid info.

1. It's not region free, meaning PAL games/blu-ray only
2. You cannot play PlayStation 2 games on it

If #2 is true that's kinda disappointing, I was really looking forward to playing Final Fantasy X-2 as I never got to play it.

It looks butt ugly, going to stick with my 60gb launch, it's a new refurb launch purchased from MM so no wear and tear and full back compatibility (great considering I want to play the PS2 MGS and FF games). The fan noise is my only quibble, just going to check if Sony will do anything about it and if not, I will apply new thermal paste and give it a go myself. Perhaps if I botch it up completely and break it I'll justify getting a slim, but the 'fat' looks so much better.
