****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

I hope so. It'd also be nice to be able to turn the damn thing off without using the controller or the power flick switch on the back...

Why not just keep your finger on the touch sensitive power button on the front of the PS3 for a few seconds, that's how your supposed to power down the system without using the controller.

Slim PS3 update: mysterious Chinese firm issues a cease and desist... to Engadget

You know, one of these days, someone at one of these big companies is going to get this right. If you send a cease and desist about "leaked" photos of a supposed device, you're basically saying, "Hey guys, those pictures are real." Now, we can't tell you with 100 percent assurance that that's the case when it comes to those factory pics of rubber-gloved hands all over an apparently-new PS3 hardware design, but it doesn't help anyone's case when a Chinese company sends your Japanese wing a takedown notice. Keep in mind, since this thing isn't from Sony, we can't really be sure that it's the real deal, but we'll be honest -- things are starting to look mighty suspicious.

LOL :D

Hmmm another one
http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2009/05/ps3_slim_weve_got_a_cease_and_decease.html
Yesterday, we have received a cease and decease letter from a Chinese legal company that claims that the images in relation to the PS3 slim rumor belongs to their client and that we should therefore take this post down.

This China-based law firm does not seem to be the normal legal proxy that Sony Computer Entertainment would be using to contact us, so we pressed them to tell us more, but so far we have not received an answer.

In some sense, this reinforces the theory that the photos that were published show a PS3 knock-off. Wouldn't it be funny if a company that makes such products were to complain about intellectual property? Or may be it's really a PS3 slim and the client is a (leaky) contract manufacturer that Sony is yelling at right now

Someone is either being very thorough for a hoax or its a real product or even somethin else. Im still not sure if its true or a very good hoax

Sony have done it before - Im sure they will do it again

Yeah it looks tiny (clever photography / angle?) but I have no doubt Sony have had this planned for a while

One thing I would suggest is that, with the reduction in cpu size it should be saving Sony a packet so they shouldnt need to (and shouldnt full stop) increase the price again, keep it the same and produce more units for the same manufacturing price

Random thought - I wonder if they will make Slim PS3 wireless-N capable? It would certainly help with HD streaming from my PC!

Although if cost-cutting is there aim, I guess they will stick with G...

You can't kill off a good rumor, especially when relentless journalists like ourselves keep it afloat. ;)

Anyway, you all may recall the speculation that Sony was prepared to launch a new Slim PlayStation 3 model. The supposed evidence came from a Chinese manufacturer and as they're hardly official, we don't really want to post the leaked pics here. But you can see one at Live PlayStation, who says that according to the UK's PSW Magazine, there is a striking similarity between the PS3 Slim photo and the early PSP Go packaging. The magazine reads:

"The PS3 Slim Packaging looks almost identical to the confirmed PSP Go, so it isn't a fake. Expect the smaller, lighter PS3 to be announced at the Tokyo Games Show in September, just in time for Xmas."

And friday on GameDaily:

http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/n...-meaningful-ps3-price-cut-says-analyst/?biz=1

At this year's E3, a number of publishers expressed their disappointment (either privately or publicly) about the lack of any price drop on Sony's PlayStation 3. Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick took it one step further recently, practically threatening to cut off support of the console because "it's expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation."

The rumors continue to swirl that Sony will finally act and drop the PS3's MSRP by $100 for August (in time for the launch of Madden) and now leading video game retailer GameStop is expecting a price drop too. According to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, who attended a meeting with GameStop executives, "Management believes that a meaningful PS3 cut is highly likely in the near-term. We continue to believe a $100 price cut on PS3 will occur around the launch of EA's Madden NFL 2010, which is scheduled for release on 8/18."

PS3 Slim rumors haven't died and after no price cut at E3 and the resulting meltdowns (Activision), as someone in the market for a PS3 I'm wondering... will the PS3 Slim be the price cut system or are there so many chunky PS3s around that the Slim will be equally or more expensive than the PS3 currently and the old SKUs will be the ones price cut?

If i was doing this price cut lark i wouldnt announce the PS3 slim but first i would drop the price of the normal PS3s down to £200 possibly at the GC in germany in august. Then in september at TGS aqnnounce the PS3 slim at say £225, this would give them and the stores enough time to clear out most of the old PS3 stock and introduce the slim while possibly making a smaller price cut spring 2010 when the waggle, GOW3 and FF13 come out ready for the end of financial year 09.

Sorry I didn't write the above out, I cut and pasted it from another forum, I accidentally left the last bit of the post in, but anyway you've hit on a good point, it doesn't make much sense to announce a price drop and a Slim at the same time as who would buy the old SKU's, like you say, lower the price of the current SKU's first and then announce the Slim later in the year, hopefully at TGS just before the winter rush.

lol how do you have a matt PS3? I would prefer a glossy finish, but if they do switch to matt for the slim they need to make it a bit prettier than that...

What do we make of this article ?

According to it they suggest the ps3 slim in August ?

And they also mention a next-gen console based on the new motion controller thingy next spring

Article is utter testicles from start to finish.

They would not release the slim so quickly and without any publication, a couple of months maybe, but next month? No chance.

They certainly would not release their next gen console early next year, they will announce it at least a year in advance imo. Late 2010 is a distant possibility, but early 2010? Again no chance.

That last image above doesnt looks very slim to me...

It is only to give an idea of the finished article after all, but yes that doesn't look like much of an improvement over the current piano black breezier block.

Nah, it is a lot smaller, the current PS3 is huge!

Quoted from the article :

Right now, this is filed under rumour and complete garbage

Fixed.

Although the price cut in August might be true ?

Yeah i'll give them that part, price cuts are rarely announced well in advance as it puts consumers off of buying the product until the price cut is introduced. We won't hear about it until a week or so before the actual cut i reckon.
