The PlayStation 'HOME' Information Thread!

In the end us PS3 owners can enjoy Home and its features either in home or via the XMB if we want to. Its free to download and doesnt have any monthly fee, and you dont have to use if you dont want to, its good to have a choice though. Im sure when myspace/youtube/facebook/second life was thought about many could not see a use of it, Home features most of those aspects, meeting friends, sharing movies/pics, playing simple games together and more, so i can see the apeal. In the end Home and its corresponding xmb features will bring many aspects people want from Live and more to PSN for free so i cant see how its a bad thing for PS3 owners.

I highly doubt the reason Home was produced was to cover up for XMB not being in game! (if thats what you meant)

I know the two arent directly comparable, i meant in terms of what the majority of people would perfer to use in order to communicate/interactive with one another, Live or Home?

No, but many people are seeing past that and it really needs sorting, i'd rather be able to send invites/join games/send messages etc.. in game rather than have to go into home to do it

I guarantee your sister and girlfriend will love Home

Its not going to appeal to the majority on here, but neither does Second Life etc.

Don't understand why people are negitive about it, ps3 is free online remember.

Doesn't matter! Just because it's free it's allowed to be pants?

But yeah glad they've kept it back, especially if features that were due to be upgrades are being put in from the start, means less waiting around once its released

Thats the point, you can do all that stuff instantly as XMB is still accessible! Thats why the added 3D environment features makes Home so appealing, and why its generally the 360 fanboys putting it down! :)

Home to me, looks crap, a long drawn out gimmick that will become boring after a few days. Sony is trying to do "xbox live" they could have done something a lot simpler, for a person who has been on Xbox Live since the start, Sony are not doing a good job of selling it to me as a potential PS3 owner.

Ok so I have to wait until Home is released so I can have those features which were basically with Live since the launch of the 360?

At 28 im past the dressing up dollies/action men thing, sorry I meant avatar. So this added 3D environment is of no appeal to me what so ever.

But is the XMB accessible in game or just whilst in home? I for one will be happy when i can send invites, view gamers, send messages etc.. whilst in game, i don't want to be in home just to set a room up for a game. I'm not being a fanboy i just like the easier option :)

I can't understand why sony haven't done this yet anyway, would it take up too much of the consoles memory?

As far as I can see, The hugely successful Sims, Sims2, Second Life and Habbo Hotel all cash in, and all have MASSIVE fanbases of all ages.

Home, Isn't like Live, It's more like these. It's not making up for lack of Live, its giving people an online community similar to these other online communities, that have already proven to be extremely successful and popular.

It is supposed to be in-game (but I have my doubts atm as it didn't appear in the version 2.0 firmware, as was certainly the original plan).

It is to do with memory from what we have told, but no-one here knows anywhere near enough about the system to know definitively. Does seem like a logical reason to me.

Parts of XMB are already available in some games, so it is possible, but I can only think that the whole XMB would use too much memory (I am sure I read that XMb uses 90ish Mb of memory and Live uses 24ish).

Either way, when Home goes Live (excuse the pun), they have stated that you can use all the home features ie chat, game joining, messaging etc in game or in Home (you will be able to pick which your console boots into by default).

Due to lack of hard info and being semi annoyed I never got a beta invite ( :D ) I am lacking a bit of faith.

Edit: On a seperate-ish note. I have never understood why people want it to have the exact same features of Live. I didn't use all of Live when I first got my 360, I ignored a lot of it thinking "this is crap for messaging geeks and 360 fanboys" etc. But then it grew on me and I use a lot more of it now then I used to. I imagine the same for Home. I would prefer the 2 are notably different tbh.

I dont really care about the 3d online world, I just want the features it will bring to the XMB... friends games played, accomplishments and hopefully in game XMB. I say that now but when we get more info or I have played it I will probably love it.

not surprised Sony are trying to grab a slice of "The Sims" massive market tbh - coz thats what Home is. Those titles made EA a ****load of money.

Fanboyism doesn't come into this. I

Come on people just because someone doesn't like something doesn't make
them a fanboy. I'm not Mr Men.

thats a point is MR Men ill i not seen him around past few days, lol

BTW why do you hate something you never tried?

i can imagine plenty will love it, i'm interested in the social aspect side of it where you can view other peoples photos', stream music and video. Certainly am not going to say is rubbish and isn't a xbox Live killer till i've actually tried it.

and i always cannot resist a game of pool or tenpin bowling online, lol

Never used the word hate :s

It doesn't appeal to me. Just like Barbie Horse Adventures doesn't.

Here I will slate the 360 to make it even. If a browser was announced for the 360 I wouldn't care. I wouldn't use it. It wouldn't appeal to me. I'm not slagging it off. I'm not saying it makes the 360 worse. It's just not my cup of tea.

If Home was coming to the 360 I still wouldn't give a ****. It's not because it's Sony, it's because it's *Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz* boring.

i think your sig says everything TBH and not willing to give anything else a chance. I own both 360 and PS3 and i'm sure you'd use Home for some of its features even if not all for example like i turned of in game notifications and game invites half the time due to them being annoying with popups during mid game or watching a film. I wouldn't use the film marketplace because its to slow and i wouldn't continue to pay for a service that what looks look will be free on PSN when out.

Haha, my sig says it all yes. I'm a hardcore 360 fanboy who has nothing better to do than slate another console on which I can play games on.

The fact is you haven't manage to counter my post. Your just trying to make me out the bad guy because I don't find something to my taste.

You realise in not one post have I said Home is a crap idea? You realise I have only given my opinion on it? You realise I gave a fair opinion on it just like I would with a video game? I don't really like Tom Clancy games even though most people do. Doesn't make me a fanboy not liking something.

I could list all of the things I like about the PS3 but I don't need to prove anything to you.

Sorry for not liking things which you do.
