The possible end of Neogaf?

Not a site I'd go to often at all. Because of all the negative things I'd heard about it over the years.

But I was surprised to come across this.

Neogaf is reportedly preparing a statement, though the future for the website is unclear. A popular video game forum, NeoGAF counts industry figures as members and part of its community. As such, news and breaking events in the video games community often come first from the website.

Another Youtubers opinion.

I found this post by Carfax on Guru3D. Which sums up how I felt about Neogaf nicely.

Not sure how I feel about this. While I was never a member of NeoGaf, and would never ever be due to the toxic climate, I was a longtime reader and lurker of that forum. Why? Because there was no better forum that had such a concentration of people that had the pulse of the gaming industry on the tips of their fingers. For getting insider news and info on both current and upcoming games, it was really quite marvelous. I mean, the sheer amount of hardcore gamers there and the website traffic is staggering; way more than any other gaming forums I've ever seen.

But, the community was very toxic, in the sense that contrary thoughts and opinions to the status quo were often punished or severely frowned upon, usually in the name of liberalism, social justice and feminism. Even
the mods to me seemed to be overwhelmingly, and absurdly strict to anyone that challenged the ultra liberal views that were so prevalent on the forums.

So like I said, I wasn't a member and would never be. But, NeoGaf was awesome as an instrument for getting the latest rumors and news in the gaming industry in a single package.

This entire debacle seems like a big dose of Karma though. You reap what you sow. :D
:D

bit odd to see the GD thread someone started being closed, surely this is a discussion about a forum about games being shut down rather than a discussion about games ergo arguably more at home in GD than in this forum but meh...

frankly it sounds like a good thing in some ways if the allegations are true as people aren't prepared to tolerate stuff like that, then again if those mods who were a problem then go and start some new forum the general issues people seem to have had re: being banned for nonsense reasons will still be there

perhaps the current owner can sell the place on, a new team can be put in place etc.. regardless of people who don't like it for whatever reasons (SJW mods/random banning of posters etc..) it is a big resource and would be a shame for it to go

I wasn't sure whether to place it in GD or the gaming section. As it was gaming related. But all fixed now.

https://www.resetera.com/

It’s formatted similarly to GAF, with games and off-topic forums that each have their own hangout subforum. Invitations are rolling out in waves, and former GAF members whose forum identities are verified are taking obvious precedence. Registration to the general public will be coming at a later time.

It will be interesting to see what effect this has on Neogaf, in the long term.

Yet another alternate forum has sprung up.

https://www.theforum.games/theforum/gaming

We reported on ResetEra, the new site from ex-NeoGAF moderators, and Open Critic is also trying to attract people to its forums. Today we’ve also heard of a new site, The Forum, that’s been put together by Angelo Sotira, founder of DeviantArt, and Janina Gavankar, the lead actor in Battlefront 2 (and also working on a secret project with Blizzard).

Unlike most major gaming sites, it is going to operate on an invite-only basis along with approval membership. That should make it easy to lock people out of the discussion if they try to derail it.
