Bokeh is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light."

I love the bokeh effect! Post your favourite/best images of bokeh in this thread and lets see if we can get an awesome collection going! Please post your camera and lens used for reference


I'll start this off

40D + 50mm f/1.8

Seems to be a lot of posts here that don't actually have any bokeh, just quite a bit of depth of field! C'mon guys, make sure the photos actually have 'out-of-focus points of light'

If you look to the right of the glass... See those little 'bubbles'? That'd be bokeh, as it's out of focus [U]points of light[/U], IE. where light is being reflected into the lens whilst being out of focus :)

Guess it depends on your take. I have never heard it being limited to "out of focus points of light" based on what some random stuck on Wikipedia

I guess so. I mean, if you want to be pedantic, it just refers to the quality of the out-of-focus parts of an image, but generally when people talk about bokeh, they'll be talking about OoF points of light, such as those in Raymond's excellent examples.
