Thanks for the info 42zx, I looked up a few sample photos from that lense and it really does looks like its the sort of thing I'd like to do.

But I'm just wondering how big a part does the camera body play in the pictures, I mean could you get similar results if this lense was mounted to say a Canon D600 or a Nikon D5100?

This is the "post your pictures thread" ;) :D

Couple taken with an old M42 mount Tamron 135mm f2.8. The manual fous on this has such a long throw it's difficult to keep up with moving subjects!

Very similar I should imagine, the D5100 has the same sensor as the D7000 and the Canon 600D is in the same class. The main difference between camera models is usually build quality, external controls etc. I like the metal construction, two dials and top display on the D7000, its much better for manual mode that night shooting requires.

I'm of the opinion that glass is most important. The camera body just makes it easier to get the shots, although of course some cameras are much better than other e.g. D700 > D7000.

Get it!!!

It's simply an amazing lens. It's not possible to take a bad photo with it!

I think I'm going to sell my 70—200mm f2.8 IS (keeping my old Sigma 70—200) and pick one up. If I like it I'll sell the 100 macro and put the money away to the 35L fund. :)

I bought another one for £550, collected on behalf of a mate. Surely you don't need to sell your old kit to get one at that price!

Done these two.

'The Tunnel - Portadown'

The site of many a hard day and night, ‘The Tunnel’ in Portadown was home to many insect and wild urban creature. Then the trouble started and different types of chemical were used to keep one side from the other. From fireworks and baton rounds to gas and the blood of human anger, the tunnel was contaminated and the wildlife that crawled and lived its space had to evolved and adopt. They developed unlike other urban wildlife and they grew natural defences of body and mind.

The pictures you will take of your little one with the 135L will be superb.

That's what it's all about :)

I would've picked one up a while go, but the mark II 70-200mm is seen as being so good that many have sold their 135L lens. I like the idea of the mkII, also using it with 1.4x and 2x extenders to replace the 150-500. It's just a lot of money to spend on a lens though, especially for a DwaC! I got the chance to pick up the mkI so thought I'd give that a go, ignoring IS it isn't really much better than the Sigma I already had. I could sell both 70-200's and the macro in order to get a 70-200 mkII... I do like the idea of the 135L though, and I enjoy using primes... A lottery win would be nice!

Cool, I usually use f/2.8-4 and ISO 1600 to 3200, the more light you capture the better but looks like you have the focus nailed which can be a problem. Even just pointing the camera away from town can make a big difference.

Would the high ISO make the image all speckly with noise? This one has iso800 with 30sec exposure. The stars are bright, but still cannot get enough light without having a grainy picture.
