The wife's car broke down at my dad's place in Devon, weekend before last. RAC came out and arranged for the car to be relayed to my home address. They took it away on Saturday the 8th April. I've heard nothing since.

Stuff I've done:

Called them on the 11th to be told to email logistics, which I did.
Called them in the 13th as I had no reply from logistics. Told to email logistics again which I did.
Called yesterday to be told that the only thing they can do is email logistics for me.
Called today to be told that there is no proceedure for escalation, I cannot speak to logistics, I cannot speak to a manager, I cannot speak to customer services. The only thing they can do for me is to email a manager and logistics and see what happens. I asked them "What am I supposed to do?", only to be told that all I can do is wait and hope that the car is eventually found and delivered.

I have no faith that I'm ever getting my car back. I think they have lost it.
I can't really report it stolen either as the police will say that I handed it over willingly and that it's a civil matter.

No idea what to do to be honest.

You willingly handed it over on the understanding it would be returned quickly. Therefore you should still be able to report this as theft to the police. Or if not report as fraud at the link here: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

Once that's done I would hire a solicitor and get court proceedings under way.

Make a big stink about it all over the RAC's pages on various social media sites, that might grab their attention.

See if any of your local news journalists are interested in printing the story.

Contact your car insurance company and say you believe that the RAC have stolen the car, they might have some advice.

Check the small print of your contract/terms & conditions of your RAC policy, see if it mentions anything about such a situation.

Sorry I can’t offer any advice - just posting my genuine surprise that they can manage to lose an entire car?!

Nothing would surprise me in the car industry.

I went to test drive a new Jaguar F Type a few years ago. It was their demo model - they were looking around for it and couldn't find it, and it transpired that a customer had just kept it, and nobody at the dealership had noticed for about 8 days... :D

I'm sure it'll turn up Rilot, it's probably just been left at a recovery yard and they've forgotten where... absolutely ludicrous though.

It’s most likely sat in a services somewhere with the keys on top of one of the tyres waiting for the next link in the relay chain to pick it up. Of course this well thought out system falls apart if there’s been a problem with the admin somewhere. If you’re lucky it’ll get reported as abandoned at some point and someone will trace the owner and get back to you. If you’re less lucky it’ll get crushed or nicked.

I've never lost a car.
I have.

Bluewater Guildhall middle car park. The first time I went there, I parked up, went into the centre and did what I had to do. I got back to the car park and my car wasn't there.

I wasn't the only person, there was a woman there who also couldn't find her car. It wasn't busy, there weren't many cars in the car park.

Turns out we'd both completely forgotten that when we'd got out of our cars, we'd gone down some steps to get into the centre and when we went back to the cars, we forgot to go back up.

Our cars were both on the middle level, we were looking on the lower level.

I'm just grateful I wasn't the only person who had lost their car at the same time.
