The Radeon RX 6800 (XT) Owners Thread.

It is probably not dead, follow me my friend :)
Turn of your power supply.
Reset bios.
Remove battery.
Wait 15 minutes.
Power on.
Works.

It is some kind of failure mode the card gets in when some limits are broken or some error occurs. I ran into it a few times while overclocking my 6800. IgorsLab wrote about it as well I think. For him removing power was enough iirc.
A really ****** failure mode tbh. I needed a few hours to solve it the first time with several reboots, trying the gpu in another system etc. But the above method brought it back to live every time I overdid it. (we are talking timespy top100 oc levels here with PPT mod so no default limits)
Also had that "its booting into windows without display output" thing, thats ******* strange :D

thanks, what battery are you referring to? On the motherboard ? As I’ve tried it on both my pcs and it doesn’t boot in either off them

Can you post a picture of the GPU Tuning fan section? Is it possible you changed something?

I'll see if I can get a screenshot when I'm next on my PC. So far as I'm aware I haven't changed anything at all in the drivers - I'm boring and have left everything at default (except switching off overlay) as I'm mostly using it for work at the moment and not getting much game time (heresy, I know)!

@Kaapstad

I think you should sticky this post to the start of the thread - if its happened to me it could well happen to others.

Happy to help :)

Everything stock?

Another huge lockup on Valorant this time so I can't even blame Warzone :p

Think I have the power limit raised and fans raised slightly that's all.

This time my monitor died completely first and then the usual loud noises in the background and completely frozen. Cards fans seemed to go on MAX too with lights on motherboard.

I've rolled back my driver's now...

Managed to pick up an MSI 6800XT Gaming Trio last week and it arrived safe and sound. I had been lucky enough to grab a 3060Ti from OCUK on release day but got a bit greedy with system upgrades and got this card. Excited to be part of team red for the first time!

My setup is:
  • Lian Li o11 dynamic Razer edition
  • MSI Tomahawk x570
  • MSI Radeon RX 6800XT Gaming Trio
  • Ryzen 2700x
  • Corsair RGB 64GB - 3600Mhz
  • Corsair MP600 1TB Gen4 SSD
  • Lian Li Galahad AIO
  • Lian Li SL120 Uni Fans (x2)
  • RM650x PSU
I am an absolute noob when it comes to overclocking or getting the best performance from a system so was wondering if you guys could help.

  1. Should I be looking to upgrade the CPU to a 5000 series Ryzen? Heard that it can unlock Smart Access Memory in BIOS for a performance boost.
  2. Will my PSU be enough to handle the above system?
  3. What is the best way to overclock the GPU? I tried some of the Auto Overclock settings in Radeon software yesterday and it boosted the clock to 2514Mhz. Perhaps theres a guide to help?
  4. Is the Radeon software stable? I briefly read someone in thread having issues with CPU temps due to this software.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Cracking Cards these. Been playing with my Gaming X 6800 all weekend, really pleased. No buyers remorse at all despite the £799 price tag (£475 after sale of previous card, I know it doesn't quite work like that but feels that way).

That's me sorted for 2 years.

happy owner of an XFX Speedster Merc 319 6800xt - took a bit of tweaking to get Battlefield V running nicely, but now i'm having no issues, and it looks amazing :) (let's not talk about Direct X 12 though, that causes lots of stuttering for some reason in Battlefield)

Same here with dx12 won't work happily with bf5 same as my Vega 56. Bit of a shame as wanted to try out raytracing but it runs fine on dx11

Finally managed to buy a 6800XT on Friday..... Shame OCUK have shipped it to the wrong address :(

Sent them a WebNote straight after purchase when I realised the address on the confirmation email was wrong, but no response.

Called them first thing this morning, waited on hold for an hour, no answer.

Now it's been shipped and DPD aren't authorized to change the delivery address :(

Ideally, you should have posted in the customers service section of the forum, you usually get a quicker response there.

Yeah, I have now but figured I would have had a response to the webnote before it shipped.

Showing my age thinking an actual phone call would be the way to go after the webnote failed :P

I think I would have tried to ring them too, but apparently they are snowed under, I always seem to get a response same day in the customer service section.
Good luck though, hope you get it sorted.

Hi, can anyopne help please? I got a Nitro+ OC 6800XT, and I get no signal through displayport connections? HDMI works fine, but I can't use my Reverb, and DP to the monitor produces no signal either. Everything worked flawlessly on my GTX1080.... Latest drivers installed from AMD site, and no OC to anything - pc or GPU.
I've read of others with issues with the HP Reverb, bnut not really just connecting to a monitor. A little stuck, and don't want to RMA if I don't need to.

Thanks

I don’t have an HP Reverb but I do use both my DP ports on my 6800XT Nitro+ OC to power my 155Hz Dell monitors. Have you tried a different cable?
