As some may know, a couple of weeks back, I said 'buggrit!' to IT and started a job as a shop supervisor. Amongst my responsabilities (okay, I took over...) is the CD player.

I took a fair few old (circa 1993-2002) compilation CDs from Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, Rock Sound et cetera and a load of lable samplers from my rock night days...

Every morning I grab half a dozen random CDs from my shelves to break things up a bit. On Saturday, one of these happened to be Sehnsucht by Rammstein.

I stuck it on when it was a bit quiet (just after opening up the shop), expecting that most wouldn't want to listen to comedy teutonic metal.

By the time Engels started, a woman poked her head in the door, asked "Is that Rammstein...?" and when I confirmed that it was...Started browsing.

Within 20 mins, she had spent £450 (two corsets, a pair of boots, a pair of shoes, some jewelery and assorted bits and bobs) and joked that I should entice people in with Rammstein more often.

The veritable flood of customers that followed her planted a seed in my mind. I played it twice more that day and twice on Sunday. Each time, people clamoured in, many asking the same question as that first lady...

So...Has anyone else noticed such behaviour...?

No, but I used to get the same reaction when I played tool in the video rental store. Officially we were only allowed to play hits albums and stuff like that, but my boss was cool so we played anythign without swearing (sometimes...)

The missus loves them and I really can't understand why.
Their early stuff is okay, but that was a long time ago. They did not age that well for me, but for her, every track seems to grab her attention.

Her driving + Rammstein = The 10 min car chase in Ronin.

I'd have to agree. Their live show was better when it was three fireworks, a phone and a prosphetic phallus too...

I can't say I ever have noticed the Rammstein effect but it probably can't be that much worse than the general generic pap that infiltrates too many stores. Comedy shouty German metal doesn't sound like a particularly good idea to me though but given I've only heard a few of their songs I'll reserve further judgement for now.

Sehnsucht is actually a damn good album with very little in the way of filler. Certainly nowhere near as formulaic as their more recent stuff (Mutter et cetera). It isn't 'comedy' as such...I just find it amusing.

That said, I'd like to think that I keep the place sounding decent...Yesterday's playlist: Rammstein, Jeff Buckley, 2 Many DJs, Sona Fariq, Dead Kennedys, a 1999 Rock Sound cover CD and the Earache Records Earplugged 2 compilation.

Why do people think its comedy? Nothing comedy about it at all

Its abslutely ****ing hilarious!

You mean you take songs ike Büch Dich and a stage act that revolves around pretending to sodomise a keyboard player with an enlarged plastic penis that continally shoots water seriously?!
