The Premier League board have rejected the bid for dispensation from Newcastle to allow Glenn Roeder to become permanent manager.

In a statement issued on Thursday evening the Premier League board stated:

The Premier League Board has considered Newcastle United's inquiry regarding the potential appointment of Glenn Roeder as their Manager.

Premier League Rules require that Managers hold the UEFA Pro License and do not provide for any dispensation.

The only way the Board would be prepared to allow Newcastle Untied to appoint Glenn Roeder as Manager without the Pro License is if so directed by member Clubs.

In the event of permission being sought, sufficient support from Clubs would have to be obtained and a formal resolution tabled at the forthcoming Premier League AGM.
The AGM is June 3rd and if 14 clubs vote in favour of dispensation then Roeder could still take charge.

The background to the whole sorry mess is that we got dispensation to keep Roeder until the end of the season on the grounds that the FA were hindering our chances of appointing a manager.
To me that means we were interested in the same people.
Now the dust is begining to settle on the England carry on , Shepherd now wants Roeder full time.
This means that what he said after sacking Souness was a lie.
He lied about interviewing world class managers , he lied about waiting for England to appoint their man and the idiot cant even put someone in charge who is already in full time employment by the club!

Any pre season plans we may have are now knackered , meaning we have to wait until June to get the inevitable knock back by the rest of the league.
Meanwhile we have nobody scouting players , trying to sell players , arranging friendlies or doing anything of note to help.

Its an embarrasing and shambolic farce.

Why hasn't Roeder been doing his UEFA Pro License though, or whatever it is.

He was out of the game for a long time since leaving West Ham... If he wanted a managerial job in the future then he really should have got his arse in gear.

It is a bit embarassing for Newcastle though. I still think they will appoint a better manager than Roeder to take over though. I'm quite sure O'Neill will make a comeback...

He was going to until his Brain tumour, in fact he had signed up and had paid the 7k. After he recovered he only wanted to coach in the Academies, and he doesn't need a badge for that.

I really don't see a problem, after all you can't fail the course

Ah I thought he just took a break from football after his problems at West Ham. Didn't realise his problems were so serious!

I still wouldn't allow him to be manager. The rules are there for everyone and everyone else has followed them (as far as I know!). He was given permission to carry on till the end of the season so Newcastle have found plenty of time to find an able replacement. I'm sure there are plenty better managers around that Roeder too.

Half the managers in the league dont have the qualification anyway and its not as if you can fail the stupid course either. Basically you turn up and stop for the duration and thats it you get it

Correct!
However , it appears that none of them will take the job on knowing full well that as soon as he can be bothered / gets bored of playing golf / gets the chop from the beeb , Alan Shearer will waltz right back into the club and take up whichever position he feels like.
And this is so wrong.

10 great years , thanks for the goals and the memories now please **** off - this is a proffesional football club , not a pantomime.

I cant think why else , we pay huge wages and good compensation and amongst the rubbish have some great players to work with.

As a bit of a side note , I counted up the number of points won by a few clubs since Roeder took over on the 4th Feb.

Liverpool - 34
Man Utd - 32
Newcastle - 29
Chelsea - 28
Arsenal - 24

Some , like Fergie , have been given special dispensation but I think they all need it by 2010.
The point isnt that its a non fail course , the point is that its the rules and as a Premier League club not only should we have been aware of these rules we should also follow them.
The joker in charge is trying to get round it to minimise the damage his lack of foresight and planning have done.

I hope all the other prem managers vote against it.

So in one breath they say that we are lacking in top flight English managers and then when they get the chance to have another one they turn it down.

I personally dont see the point in needing to have the qualification, its not like being an accountant or a lawyer where you get taught most of what you know from the qualification.

The LMA (who were dead against the employment of Roeder) have been overuled by the chairman of the premier league football clubs.
Makes a farce of the LMA and their chairman Howard Wilkinson.

The rest of the teams in the legue obviously see us as no threat to them with Roeder in charge.

I love the quote from Freddy : "Should we wish to appoint Glenn as our next manager it is nice to know we have the support of our fellow clubs."

Whos he trying to kid?

As an aside, I did like it when on MOTD on Sunday they interviewed Roeder and asked him if he knew that since he took over the results were the 3rd best in the Premiership. His answer? "3rd eh? Well, if I'd had my UEFA Pro badge maybe it would have been 1st" :D :D :D

It a joke that the PL should twist their rules to allow Roeder to become manager of Newcastle.

Give him the job and Newcastle will be in the bottom half of the Premiership half way through next season! He will be sacked in January 2007...mark my words! ;)

His previous experiences at Gillingham, Watford and West Ham show his true ability as a manager. ie. not very good!

Well for a start other managers have already had special dispensation so it's not a joke.

Secondly he won't be sacked in January, Shepherd gave Souness longer than that.

And thirdly he was successful with West Ham, West Ham's highest finish was under Roeder (7th) and he also help immensly young players including the now England International Joe Cole.

I think it was Harry Redknapp that helped Cole in the early days

Who was the one club that vetoed the Roeder appointment then?

I have no idea how many voted , how do you know there was only 1?
We only needed 14 of the 20 to vote yes.
I can imagine Bolton voting no after Allardyces shameful bitter bile spouting after England turned him dow.

I expect Bolton to be one of them. Allardyce said in no uncertain terms he should have all his badges.

It was on SSN when the news came through that he could take the job

It said something about a unanimous decision with only 1 club against the idea

Didnt catch all of it though
