It sorta struck me last night when I finally took me pala to lv70, what exactly is the role of a paladin in a group or raid? We can't tank (Well, we can) since warriors or even feral druids does it better, we dont heal, you have a priest for that, DPS?, just get another warrior..

I've had problems getting into groups before since I'm retr specced. I'm considering respeccing as Holy and just heal when no priests can be found.
I spoke to THREE lv70 paladins yesterday that's guildless since their former guilds didnt allow them to raid as retr specced palas, they either had to go holy or not get invited to Kara etc.

So, what exactly does a paladin do at higher levels?

Buffs, healing, off tank, Devine Intervention, and ressing.

DPS spec paladins won't get a look in for raids as you would be sacrificing better DPS classes to make space.

Jokester

you heal, heal some more and buff people.

Tank paladin = joke, please dont even go there unless raid is totally 100% desperate
Dps paladin = LOL
Heal paladin = high crit change, +mp/5 flash of light spam with buffing between stuff in raids.

Raiding paladin - Healing paladin.

It's a shame, probably the only class that isn't allowed to dps in raids, I mean guilds normally will take a shadow priest or an enhancement shaman, but paladins MUST heal to get a look in.

Paladins are the best AoE tanks in the game when decently geared and played by someone with half a clue.

The reason pallys don't get to DPS is not entirely because their DPS is low, its more because when geared to actually hurt things they have silly burst damage which in turn causes agro problems. Also unlike shadowpriests/enhance shaman they have no real active buff that they give from DPSing (priests give hp/mp regen, shaman give AP buff)

On a side note....please dont wear cloth as a pally, a) you look stupid. b) you murder one of the best parts of a pally healer......survivablity.

in a lot of raid situations some cloth items are just fine for a paladin. Also a pure "dps" paladin will never keep up with any other dps class ;)

Tute, enhancement shamans and shadow priests can easily contend for the top spot on dps charts, the shamans are some of the best dps apart from their huge threat, after a while the ones in my old guild would sometimes go with a shaman vanish (die, reinc) to do a load more dps.

Paladins are a support class in PvE, PvP they are deadly, this is due to the fact paladins arent efficient when doing high damage = manaless paladin cant do a lot of damage, and paladins can last a long time when healing due to their high mp5/spirit rate.
