Nice performance bump with RR.

In terms of picture quality, it's very good and easily the new benchmark for PQ. Will wait for the DLC and do a full playthrough and do more testing in the meantime.

My old 3080 is getting battered in PT.

Maybe all part of the plan from Nv considering the new DLSS3.5 is currently locked to PT and can't be used with stock RT'ing

According to the benchmark scores you posted earlier 24GB 3090 only getting ~10% more frames.

You didn't warn me mate, I was all over my 3080 10Gb deficiencies and got dogs abuse, but hey time to upgrade my old 3080 buds, should have listened.

Yeah. Wish I would have listened and paid more than double. That extra 10% would have made a big difference here

You mean to say 24gb isn't cutting it? Extra £750 well spent then Heck, could be worse, you could buy the current top end amd gpu and still get a worse experience than a £650 gpu from 3 years ago

Not sure why anyone is expecting a 3080 (not to mention any ampere gpu) to be able to play path tracing in this smoothly especially if you are one of these people who won't use upscaling......

Using the settings that you would need to use on any gpu aside from a 4090, 4080 i.e. appropiate settings that said card is capable of in the first place, the experience is certainly playable:

Ray reconstruction biggest boost in IQ is more noticeable when you're using lower presets of upscaling.

Nothing is free with Nvidia.

When they're leading the way and providing an experience far superior to what native is capable of now, they have every right to demands all the money tbh. **** for us but you can't blame them.

Wouldn't know. Not played it yet. DLC ain't out until 26th so no rush. Busy enjoying Starfield.

Nah, not upgrading for Cyberpunk. Not even slightly tempted. Upgrade will be when Jensen actually says that when next gen cards are about to launch

And this is why you don't "upgrade" from ampere to rdna 3 if you care about ray tracing folks:

AMD need to get their act together asap on ray/path tracing. Not only are they now 3-4 years behind on ray tracing performance but they are also now significantly behind in ray tracing IQ. And before people bang on about:

- it's just one game that has dlss 3.5/RR - look at history, you know this won't be the case for very long
- RR can only be used with path tracing, nvidia have already stated they are working on bringing it to just normal ray tracing too and chances are, it will be backported to all the currents game using dlss and ray tracing. I also wouldn't be surprised if it somehow gets modded in (we all heard frame gen and dlss wouldn't be possible, well puredark etc. have proved it is)

I do hope there is a good ray reconstruction solution for all at some point though as this kind of thing will actually end up making RT very much a nvidia only thing if it gets widely adopted/implemented i.e. with rdna 3, it was usable/passable but as of right now, this whole thing is just further cementing nvidia as being the only choice if you value ray tracing.

The reflections in motion are so damn good with dlss performance now:

That was probably my only main complaint with ray tracing and it's reflections especially when using lower dlss/upscaling presets.

Anyway, enough of dicking about on a peasant 3080, shall be playing on the £18 4080 this weekend
