The Running Man

Watched this last night.

The film itself was a pretty good ride, and I think it's a more faithful representation of the book (note that i have read it). But I’m a child of the 80s, and subconsciously I love the over-the-top Arnie version with its wild action and classic 90s cheese. So there’s an obvious comparison, and I feel the Arnie one is a slightly better movie.

I’d give the 2025 version a 7, and the old one a 7.5.

Definitely worth a watch then? Does it tick the fun action movie, disengage most of brain and enjoy it category?

Has anyone watched this? I wont have a chance unfortunately until next week?

Edit - sorry just seen @adencool review.

The only issue I see is calling it Running Man as it then begs comparison to it's original, which by the trailer looks exactly as overamped/over styled as Total Recall reboot was, which means we know this'll it'll be entirely forgettable primarily due to it's formulaic approach, the absolutely epitome of style over substance..

I'll no doubt watch it on streaming when available, and will definitely watch the original as a precursor, at the end of the day it looks enjoyable enough but certainly not worth spending money at the Cinema for me.

Yeah, I get your point.. but then people are comparing it to the original movie more than the book, and ultimately if this had its own name, people would just be judging it on it's own two feet..

Ironically Total Recall wasn't named after the book (It had a long winded title), neither did blade runner and many other movies, but I don't deny you are probably right!

Yeah, but We can remember it for you wholesale and Do androids dream of electric sheep? would've been terrible as movie titles. It had to be done :D

I get what you're saying with people possibly comparing to the original film, but I don't really see the issue. They're different takes and there's room for both IMO.

Just saw it tonight too 5/6 10

It's ok it's a watchable action film, I did chuckle at some stuff but I found it a bit "boring" after the half way mark.

It probably is more loyal to the source of corporate media gone mad and a split have/have not society but meh? Again another stick it to the "capitalist police state" film.
It goes off on little role eyes tangents but it's ok.. just ok.
Fight the power..... (Cringe)

Remove the Arnie version from your mind.
Remove the fact that it's directed by Edgar Wright (I'm not a huge fan of him anyway, but I know he's cult.)

Personally I am very much looking forward to this when it hits streaming. I absolutely loved the book and found the original Arnie movie a complete abomination and have refused to watch it more than once when it was first released - it basically had nothing to do with the book, nothing at all and that irritated the hell out of me. According to Edgar Wright this one is supposed to be a lot more faithful to the book and that's all I want - I hate it when writers and directors totally **** with perfectly good source material.
