The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Even a Vega refresh with better drivers, power issues improved, actual availability (and therefore sensible pricing) would be preferable. I also think if there are as few Vega chips sent out to AIB partners as rumoured, a lot of them have only spent limited time on designing new board layouts or coolers, as they know they won't get a return if they've only got a thousand units to sell.

So, a few months down the road from release, is everyone still enjoying the card regardless of all the haters and Nvidia users saying this card is trash?

I was one of the lucky few to get the launch deal, so obviously very happy with my purchase. The hardware's decent (notwithstanding poorly tuned stock voltages) and has plenty of potential to shine with future big titles.

Still, it's frustrating that AMD have not been able to sort out their production problems, as that weakens the GCN share of the gaming market and subsequent leverage on developers to up their game in Vulkan & DX12. There is a big back catalogue of DX11 games that are poorly threaded and Nvidia cards do relatively better on these; the great performance seen in games like Wolfenstein show what Vega is capable of and it'd be a shame if these titles were to stay in the minority.

In the meantime Civ 6 runs fantastically well on my Ryzen + Vega setup in DX12 - it's a shame there's no Vulkan port otherwise I'd be running it in Ubuntu too.

Personally for me the card has been and still is a real joy. I'e backed down from sky high overclocks now and just enjoying stutter free no nonsense high fps gaming. Such a shame the price of this card is where it is today, I wish more people could get hold of it.
"Still" assumes that we have been enjoying the card!
Trollololololol...

I think that's a problem though, given the poor stock of Vega at the minute and the fact that the 1080 had a 14 month headstart (along with the existing GPU market %) it seems that unless Nvidia push for DX12/Vulkan in games there's not a lot of motivation for developers to use them and even if they do the push to optimise the games for the majority marketshare (if that's what they do) would suggest that anything that makes it run better on AMD might not get included.
I guess we just have to hope developers do it because they want to (or because it's cheaper). Of course better Nvidia support of a few key features might help too. If Nvidia support DX12/Vulkan to the point where it performs better on Nvidia cards than AMD, then I feel we might see it implemented more.

Good reading guys.

I can only agree with every reply, pretty spot on. Bought mine on day one at 459 and at that price it feels like an exceptional card. Yes I had to put an extra 130 on top for the EK block and backplate to go in existing loop but even so it feels an amazing 1440p GPU at that price. Sadly, the absolute bonkers price of the GPU today turns Vega into a bad card when it's actually beautiful to look at, has amazing build quality underneath and has top notch performane all be it using a lot of power.

What still cracks me up when I'm gaming with friends is all they do is slate AMD/VEGA saying they'd rather use on board graphics than use AMD GPU but in same sentence go on to say they've got black screen problems and driver issues on their Nvidia cards with them being RMA'd etc. I'm gaming over 100fps at 1440p with zero issues. Funny isn' it how the mind works.

It's supposed to be, worked that way for quite a while now, shame if he got punished because something was bugged/broken on the forum :(

The feature is there to protect other users from rule breakers not to stop someone breaking the rules - if you are depending on that feature to automatically prevent you from being banned you really shouldn't.

This is not the point at all, it's simple.

The rules were not there to be seen, he was just very happy, he edited the post, he got suspended afterwards anyway.

You could say that the mods failed to protect other users from rule breakers and should be suspended couldn't you?

*edit there is also a massive point here about no one needing protecting from anything.
But i'll leave it at the point that he was told not to do something, corrected it and was punished anyway.

Like he said, draconian.

Had forgotten the stickies were deleted - however on signing up you are linked to this https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/help/boardRules/

Whether you or I agree or not with the need to protect that is the approach the forum owners have taken.

I don't know quite how the suspension thing works, but I'm guessing they don't need to have group discussions about these things, so it could've been one mod rather than an all mods or OcUK staff decision. Over this holiday period there may be less mods around.
Either way, nobody's being forced to use this forum, if you don't like the rules or how they're enforced I'm sure there are other options. I would've thought not swearing on tech forums owned by a etailer is fairly obvious because they're running a business. I wouldn't expect to see swearing used on the shoop pages in a product description either for the same reasons. That said I do feel the suspension without a warning was harsh.

To try to get the thread back onto topic...
It seems that people are using custom setting to lower power draw and improve performance with their Vega 64s. I'd imagine this is fairly common knowledge on these forums, especially this thread.
What settings are people using for their Vega 64 LC cards?
ICDP did a nice thread: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...king-undervolting-information-guide.18793012/
but that seems to be for the air cooled version.

A few posts back AMDMatt/WattMatt posted some settings but they seemed to mostly increase my power draw while only slightly improving my clock speeds. Does anyone have the Vega 64 LC running at similar/better performance (compared to stock) with reduced power draw?

Thanks.

Absolutely. Sure, it was slightly more expensive than it really should be for the performance (paid about 470 and 460 for the two reference cards we have here) but given that we have FreeSync wide screen monitors, the competition is just not an option. :)

The card does very well under water in particular. I love how it easily idles at 22C GPU, 25C memory without the need for any fans going with the 360+240 rads I have in my loop, and how it might get to only about 50C on the hot spot at load. Obviously, I never see it throttle anymore, it's far better able to keep its clocks without that. I'm still on its original ROM.

Most of the time I'm actually running the default Balanced profile ... either because I installed drivers and forgot to restore the settings, or because the settings I was testing with were unstable and it reverted itself. Plus a lot of time is spent just on the desktop, and not gaming, so having extra performance or less power doesn't matter too much for me most of the time.

I have my Vega 64 LC running at P6 1667 P7 1725 at 1100mv and 1150mv with power limit +25% giving effective clocks of 1680-1700mhz and the RAM set at 1050mhz it allows me to have the fan hit 1800rpm max and uses average 280w down from upwards of 370w

I havn't even bothered touching mine, as it runs fine as is. :D
Mine ran fine also but I like to tweak for fun and it actually runs effectively faster for 25% less power draw, less noise and heat and increased longevity. And it's also nice to tell overclocked GTX 1080 owners that I'm getting equal if not better performance for only 50w more when they try to pull the power draw argument

My ban lifted sometime back. Not to say I learnt a really valuable lesson (lol).

Thank you for the support for everyone who did understand where this went wrong, I really did get banned despite having already edited out the swears ( this is quite fishy, looks as if the moderator was not completely unbiased/ biased towards the person who reported me).

Also to make a small but important clarification, I did not purchase my gear off OCUK (neither do I plan to after this experience, just to make this point to a mod if he even cares about his company's sales figures) because I live in India but I definitely know what store to not spend my money on after being unjustly banned.

Now also, I can't even contest that ban because the post that the ban warning leads you to has been 'closed for replies'. Yay.

I run my card at p6 1672 p7 1777 @ 1055 mv and 1100 hbm @ 900mv this gets me 150-190watts and 1700 mhz core.

If i want to run it like a monster it will clock to 1752 @ 1110mv setting the p7 to 1777 and 1140 hbm @910mv

0% powerlimit increase for all this

This is why this card is better than an nvidia (if you can get one at the right price)

*and if you like mining, it mines at 1775mhz core and 1180 hbm 1520 H/s xmr (non block chain driver) 150-180 watts
