Just get and overclock the 1080 then.
The LC 64 is much better than the air in my opinion, why i went for one, ive not even touched it, as fine as is, hitting over 1700, is quiet, and doesn't go over 70 degrees.

It uses more power and generates more heat as a result, but as to actually being hotter that depends on the cooling. I.E I had my reference V64 and GTX1080 in side by side machines at one point and something that shocked me as I wasn't expecting it was that the Vega ran cooler and quieter when doing/playing the same thing. Obviously it was putting out more heat but the better reference cooler meant it was exhausting it better so the additional TDP didn't cause it to run hotter, and it ran quieter (technically less loud, we are talking reference coolers here).Its much hotter
