The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

What's the deal with the Raise the game promotion?

I've received the code already. I'd quite like to keep Origins and sell the other 2. Is it 1 code for all or will it give me 3 separate codes upon redemption? Do you need to own a vega card to claim these codes?

I just had a look and honest most of the negative reviews were complaining about the price, with a couple of people saying they had to RMA.

Airflow wise, I'd like to think I'd be OK, got the antec DF85 and looks alike, it has fans for days, so I'd hope that would deal with any heat. I'll try and find that vega 64 head to head mentioned earlier, then work out if the performance difference is worth £130.

The Powercolor Red Devil just dropped to £450

Yeah, that is a seriously good price. I was all set to hold on to see what news August 20th brings but the continued gloom around the £, the fact that the 1100/2000 series cards seem to be a minor evolution rather than a revolution and the fact that the pricing situation is extremely volatile.

I can see me getting either this or a 1070ti.

Any advice?

This, if it's between it and a 1070ti all day long. I get the feeling next gen nvidia gonna be more expensive than we'd all like, previous gen nvidia won't come down much more (plus will they forget all about optimising drivers for them once new gen out?). Meanwhile, this is now a decent competitive price for a vega64 that probably still has room to mature/improve going by previous AMD efforts/drivers...

I have a freesync 1440p 75Hz monitor that my RX580 is fighting valiantly for, but sometimes it loses the battle on decent settings and stutters a bit so this is very tempting for me also...

It's a pain in the rear, I tend to run my hardware as it comes, For that reason I prefer to get a card that can run without all the messing around.

Get out of the OVERCLOCKERS forums then :p j/k

In all seriousness the tinkering with Vega is actually interesting. HBM2 tweaking, undervolting, etc. All a good learning experience and getting free performance too, is a bonus with the learning how stuff works.

A game bundle that gives us 3 games that'll be worth over £110 on release is very tempting, Unfortunately my m-atx motherboard doesn't have a slot for a second card, If it did I'd of bought a 580 Red Dragon to get the games & play around with it in crossfire with my 480 Red Devil. Unfortunately I'm easily persuaded too,
My sensible half is grateful I can't fit a second card on my board while my other side is pricing up new motherboard.

God help me. :D

The devil on your shoulder is quite loud...I can hear him shouting "GET A NEW MOBO AND STFU" from here :D

I played around with my Vega 64 blower & my V64 Nitro+ Limited edition (the three 8 pins model) and performance improvements were negligible at best, The Nitro ran cool & quiet at stock and a little cooler with voltage drops but real time mhz was never what they put on the box even after tweaking. That really annoyed me as it's like Nvidia underestimate and AMD overestimate.

I think your case is really limiting the performance. The card you sold me was rock solid and plenty powerful. It was big improvement over the 1070 in everything, VR and normal gaming. I didn't really push it, but, even with minor tweaks there was a big jump in performance over stock settings.

You'd think so with my old matx case but when clocking and benching I had the roof off and temps were good enough with the Nitro to rule out thermal throttling, The reference limited edition would ramp the fan up to hairdryer levels regardless of having the roof on or off so that one was likely being limited by the case, I ended up moving back into my C70 at some point so I won't be going small with high end components again.

Glad I saw this before I received my Gigabyte!

Getting the powercolor instead.

Smart move. I was thinking about it yesterday and realised it would be hard for some of us to justify the £80 difference but without that it's a no brainer. The Red Devil wins the day.

fml. Gigabyte arrived, currently trying to arrange to return it and swap >_>

As an aside, I just checked my PSU and realised I only have an 8 and 6 pin. Given how power hungry the vega cards are, I assume a regular 6-8 pin adaptor won't cut it, right?

Vega 64 is faster than the 1070Ti. Especially the likes of Nitro+ and Devils.

Also most of the factory GTX1070Tis out there are overclocked to their end without any space for more.
top range of the GTX1080Ti also. All of them clocked to 2021 and need watercooler to break the 2043 barrier with liquid metal. Also bad drivers and completely bad UI to do things, while it requires third party software to do stuff, yet still limited.

The choice is yours, but I had to choose from my GTX1080Ti Xtreme and haven't had any regret "downgrading" to Vega 64 Nitro+. Is so much better card, and more fun to play with it's settings.
