The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Got my powercolor installed. Had a few hard shut downs but I'm pretty sure that's because I was using 1 cable that splits into 2 x 6+2 PCI power. Now I'm using 2 separate cables that seems to have fixed that.

What do the red leds on the underside of the card mean? I'm guessing they show you how hard the card is working? They're a bit annoying because when they're up at about 2/3rds they make a noise, almost like a high pitch fan but it's just the LEDs. Anyone else experienced that?

Should I be running the card in power save or balanced? Also there's a bios switch which according to the manual also seems to do something similar. By default it looks to be in turbo mode. Leave it there?

Ignore the bios switch.
Settings depends what you want. The card will downclock the cores if power is not needed. If you see some 7W while watching videos, dont worry :p
Same applies if you play games like EU4/CK2 and is using only 80W.

From my Nitro, Power Save mode sets the card to 176W. Balance at 234W and Turbo at 276W.
It will clock as high as temp allows on those power limit envelops. You might find that the performance difference between Power Save and Turbo mode is 10% or less or there about. Thats normal :p

After that Custom is were you overclock, downclock, overvolt and downvolt your GPU. Plenty of settings.
Also using 18.8.1 by pressing Alt+R while gaming it will give you access to a lot of stuff, including setting changes like colour etc.

Yeah I found Wattman, and under Global Wattman I can adjust the slider to Custom and then for the GPU there is 7 stages, the last two set on Auto, 1150 and 1200 when I make it manual. I am guessing these are the two I have to change ?? As I said, total n00b so need guidance, or a well made guide to read. :o

Yeah it just means that temperature permitting the card will go to the maximum clock speed and use the corresponding voltage. Basically setting them all the same is the easiest way.
I found that with the reference design I can't hear the fan at 2000rpm or under so I put it at 2500. Keeps the card very cool and isn't very audible at all. Surely the Red Devil one is even better.

My Red Devil is due today and I'm super excited for it. I've ran DDU and cleaned my old drivers away and stopped windows from installing drivers automatically so when I get home tonight it should be a straightforward swap :-)

Yes. It's ok, I've reinstalled NMS and it all seems good now.

The card is MASSIVE though- I have had to strap my res to the roof of the case and lose the fans that were up there... Need to put some though into this!

Btw dont use Relive if you do not truly need it. uninstall it as it adds some issues from time to time.
Tell me about "massive". The Nitro+ comes with scaffolding to keep it straight.
Good addition must say because my GTX1080Ti Xtreme for a nice bend in less than a year usage -_-

Thanks ! Read through it and if I understood things right and followed what @ICDP posted, this should be working then ?

First picture is the proposed changes if I understood things right, have not applied them yet, although saved the profile if it is right. I marked the things I changed, to look similar to what ICDP had posted, did not touch the frequency of the GPU though. The fan speed I couldn't get lower then 800, although he had his sett on 400, but might been limited with later updates of Wattman ?

Second picture is the stock settings of the card, as comparison if needed.

Would that work ?? Don't really want to hit apply and mess things up until sure. :o And maybe should wait a couple days, just to be sure card is working alright and such before messing around with the settings ??

Questionable settings ?

Original settings

Try these settings for a start.

Power limit at 50% Leave Fans and temperature on Automatic.

For the GPU voltages, change the P7 state to 1050mV and change the P6 state to 1000mV.

On the HBM side, change the Frequency to 1000Mhz and the Voltage to 1000mV.

You can change things to suit yourself as you get more used to using Wattman.

What I would do is run a few benchmarks like 3D mark, Heaven etc. and a few game benchmarks on the stock settings using the balanced mode.

Then change to the custom settings and see do you notice any improvement.

Ahh thanks, my Red Devil got delivered today too so this is a handy summary of initial tweaks to try when I install it later... :)

Hello. I've recently just obtained the sapphire limited edition 64 version and i was wondering if anyone could tell me if the card needs 3x 8pin connectors for it to function?

I have 2 in right now but only the fan LEDs light up. I have ordered another 8 pin cable for tomorrow anyways.

Is it also okay to use a 650w power supply for this card? Thanks.

Yes needs all 3 for stable volt. You could try the two to the left (as you see the card upside down), because the new Nitro+ has 2 8pins and blank the 3rd.
However if you encounter a single issue you need to plug the third one.

Yep, i plug the two on left like how the non LE is and no video. I'll wait until tomorrow to see if the 3rd one gives me video. Ty for reply

I think @nashathedog had the Nitro with the 3x 8 pins at some point.

I'd upgrade the PSU to at least the recommended minimum, I was using a fairly new 650 watt EVGA G2 PSU when I got my first Vega 64 and it wasn't powerful enough so I grabbed an 860 watt Seasonic which is what I was using when I got the Nitro + LE. You may find it seems to be fine but it's not worth the risk, They advice you have a 750 watt minimum for the V64. I couldn't even pick the fastest of the Vega's three performance settings without it crashing the PC on my 650watt PC.

Can I just ask all you lovely Vega 64 owners (particularly Red Devil owners...) a question?

When you first installed it, and gave it a thorough thrashing with some pretty games, did you get a 'hot' smell? Like an ''Oh my god, is this thing about to catch fire?'' kind of smell?

It didn't, and it's just about gone again now, but I did get worried. Assume it to be just that 'new electronics' smell, but just checkin'...

I know the smell you mean. Mines running warm under load (73). I did have some texture issues (I can see on outdoor stages dotted lines where each section of the map meets) on DOOM, but that might be down to vulkan or something like not running it off an SSD.

I'll do more tests tomorrow night after work
