The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Thanks nice of you to say.

It's a quiet as u want it to be as I've several different fan profiles. When browsing and not gaming it's borderline silent. When gaming it's quiet but Can here the fans as I've set them to 1300rpm....and benching well I just let them rip at full pelt so obviously a lot louder.

I've been spoiled by my Sapphire Fury Tri-x and Bequiet pure rock cpu cooler build so I don't really want that too change, Even the Asus 1060 dual I'm using until I get another Vega is close to silent. I'ds like to do a watercooled project.

The pump on my Vega64 LE is extremely quiet. I've tested it with all other fans turned off (my PSU has a passive mode) and stopped the aio's radiator fan, extrmely quiet. The AIO's fan however is not silent, I'll be getting it replaced with a nice Noctua industrial and plan to run it ~800 idle and 1200rpm load, temps allowing of course.

I noticed a definite sound increase with the Vega AIO, I sent it back due to black screens though so if a quieter option becomes available before a replacement does I may go for a Tri-x or even a Strix this time around.
It's a bit odd that we haven't seen or heard anything from Sapphire regarding a Tri-x or Nitro Vega64.

We got another one :(

The failure rate on these AIOs must be astronomical.

EDIT:

Have you got 2x seperate 8-Pins plugged in ?, as i have read, that if just using the one cable, that splits into 2x, it can cause problems.

That's what about 6 or so? Assuming it is wonky. Not a bit of wonder they're rarely in stock, the limited allocation appears to be going to replace dodgy ones.

It's not good news for AMD or the board partners, I wonder if some like Sapphire are going to settle for just doing reference models with this generation and 4 or 5 months down the line they'll do an XFX and pull with Vega what XFX did with the RX480 GTR XXX which was basically a 580 grade chip?

So, here's what I'm thinking with these new drivers.

Looking at it today, I still think there was a clock reporting bug even on the 17.8.1 driver now. Last night I benched 1749 core 1050 mem and breezed through, no problems what so ever. This morning, new driver, tried benching the exact same as last night, nope wouldn't have it. So dropped to 1700/1000, nope still wouldnt bench. Dropped to 1650/1000 benched and got just under 25k Firestrike Graphics, which outscored MDplatts graphic score by over 400 points where he benched at 1980/1100. There's no way I should beat his graphic score where his clock is over 300mhz higher and has a much better rig.

Here's my Firestrike Graphic Score with clocks at 1650/1000 (24895)

See if you guys can bench the same clocks now on this new driver, I'd be interested to see if you could. Quite pleased with the card hitting just shy of 25k on my aging rig, that's really putting it up there in between the 1080 and the Ti.

There is definitely something off as I was able to bench clocks of 1907 and 1075 on the first drivers but then following updating to 17.8.1 I couldn't go far past 1800 and 1045 (can't remember exactly and not at home just now). However I was getting equally good scores in Time Spy with the lower clocks as I was getting with the higher clocks on the original drivers. Sounds like something similar is happening with the latest drivers then, don't know if I want to update to them when I get home... if the overclocks we are achieving aren't in fact real, I kind of prefer the illusion I think!

Well guys, Vega64 is now under water with my EK goodies. Spent the day today taking the old loop apart, draining etc. Redid all the PETG tubing, was only able to keep just the one pipe from the existing custom loop, but nice to put in new anyway. Been leak testing for about 5 hours downstairs, just brought it upstairs were I'm happy to say it all seems to be working excellent, temps are amazing :) :)

Took some pics of the PCB, Vega die, the waterblocks and some pics of the build for curiosity if anyone wants to know what it looks like under the hood, and the almost finished article. Just need to put the back cover on the case, and do some small colour coding, but fairly happy with it. Was going to put all 6 Vardars in push/pull but think i'll only need 4. I've a spare one in the base of the case that I can always move to the rad to pull air through if I need more cooling. At 21c idle on desktop and 37c running benchmarks, I don't think it will be needed though.

Very impressive looking machine you have there.:)

I don't hold out much hope for the custom ones now tbh, as the Strix isn't even overclocked, might as well just call it a reference air cooled Vega 64, with a different cooler.

Pretty much, but I think they will offer lower temps and noise levels but very little in performance as any increase in the core clock and the power use goes nuts what ever cooler is on it

Using your settings (1650/1000 + Power limit @50%) my Firestrike graphic score is 24190 Tony.

ok cool, something definitely off then with the overclocks and benches from earlier in the week from some of the other guys. I'd have though MDplatts would be looking at somewhere around 28k with a 1980mhz core and 1100mhz mem. Hopefully when he gets back from Scotland, he can get the new driver and try his existing clocks so we know for sure. I'm just wondering how far to push it on this new driver now. Might just leave mine at 1650/1010 for the time being.

I tested my card once more with The Witcher 3, without any framecaps and that crashes my card rather soon as well. I then hooked up a second PSU (700W) to my graphics card, same result.

I just contacted Scan to get a replacement card.. shame :/

And yet another liquid cooled one goes **** up. Would love to know wtf is going on with these things.

Damn, I get the sense that Loadsamoney and Gerard spend day and night in this thread just hoping for news of pump whine, coil whine, exploding GPU's, or anything negative, just so they post and troll about it.

Can't you guys stick to the Vega review thread and post there how bad/faulty/low quality/rubbish etc you think Vega is, and leave the owners thread, for.....owners?
