The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

New card from a different retailer received, wish me luck :D

New card definitely approved on my end, runs benchmarks just fine and more importantly games without any black screen crashes like the previous one. I'm now certain that my previous Sapphire card was faulty.

I'm now a very happy Vega owner :)

Aldo wanted to mention that for some reason this card is quieter than the previous on load, definitely seems like the fan on the radiator is not spinning as high as the previous one.

Great news man, enjoy!!

Hi All, just recently received my Sapphire Liquid cooled Vega 64 upgraded from a Fury X.

Just wanted some advise as I was looking for a nice utility that overlays info about fps, GPU usage, power etc while running games. Any suggestions welcome.

Also some of my classic favourites I cannot test/run, Dead Space 1,2,3 allowed me to enable v sync/FXAA in Radeon pro tool but this does not seem to be working with the Vega 64, has anyone tried or have a fix, or an alternative tool (D3dOverider does not seem to work)

Am very impressed with the card and the image quality it produces, i am running it in turbo mode and am happy to share my experiences:

My system is Asus MG279Q Freesync, Gigabyte x99 Gaming 5, Corei7, 32GB, Corsair Ax1200i, Samsung 960pro NVME

Everything runs excellent, more then i hoped for and within my 35-90 Freesync range.
Only one challenge at max settings is TC Wastelands as I get 46-55 on max 1440p

The strange one is Crysis 3 as this drops frames badly for example in level one when he is given the bow and you wonder out to where you start using the bow on the raining scene- frames drop crazy - very strange?

Any advise would be appreciated...

So I got my new Corsair HX1000i installed after work last night and spent most of the evening testing.

With the PSU ruled out I can confirm that my card IS unstable at stock (Balanced mode or higher) clocks. It's not by a lot though. It's clear that the stock max clock of 1750Mhz is simply more than the actual silicon is capable of. The hard limit for mine seems to be around 1720Mhz.

So poor binning and inadequate testing seems to be the culprit here.

Slightly undervolted and max core clock set at 1700Mhz, it appears to be completely stable. I need to do some longer duration stress tests to prove, but it looped heaven and firestrike each for 45 minutes without crashing. Thermals in particular, but also power usage are much nicer here.

In all other respects the card is excellent - HBM2 clocks nicely, 1100Mhz at stock volts is a breeze, pump and fan are very quiet, no coil whine until it hits silly fps.

So I'm weighing the pros and cons of RMA now. Seems like a bit of an overreaction to return because of the last 50Mhz of cpu core that I would be unlikely to ever use outside of benching, especially considering what little difference that makes compared to memory OC on these. Gonna mull it over for a few days before I do anything.

Woop woop new owner here.

:D

Will be hard on the ears coming from a Tri-X Fury but hope to put a 3rd party cooler on it somewhere down the line.
Going to install it in a bit and see if it gives me that bit more umph at 1440p, 4GB to 8GB should be nice. :)

Will probs just run it as is for a few days but will then start o/c'ing etc.
Need to catch up on the thread but any particular posts peeps can link for me to look at would be great. Ta.

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Vega 64.

I would RMA it mate. Even if your happy when you come to punt it on prospective buyers may not want a card that can't hit stock boost clocks.

Doesn't Doom run quite well on Vega? :D
Not heard of 'gloom'...:p
Gloom was a total conversion pack for the original Doom, I don't think it's compatible with the 2016 game.

You really don't need a 1000w PSU for the AOI cards, a decent 850w is absolutely fine. I've had no black screens or any issues at all running mine at +50% power with the core voltage, core and memory clocks all increased beyond stock. For anyone who is unsure this PSU calculator is fairly comprehensive and up to date with latest components: https://seasonic.com/psu-calculator/ I have quite a few extras, 4 storage drives, AOI CPU cooler, LED strip, DVD writer, etc. and mine comes out at 700w.

The stuff you've been reading here about people having to use power saving mode or bios 2 are those who have been unlucky and received faulty cards.

Whether you can use a lesser psu seems to be on a card by card basis, I think it's why Vega had a delay and why we have Revision 0's in the AIO's and Revision 1's in the air-cooled models. I tried two different 850 watt psu's with my AIO neither up to the task. So while there is a lot of faulty cards we can't say an 850watt psu is more than enough for an AIO.

I hope the AIB models (ie only the Strix so far) all use Revision 1 chips.

Hmm, my first 290x started that way. Eventually it degraded further and I was having to underclock by 100Mhz or more. At that point I sent it back.

Personally after that experience I would just send it back now. As it is only going to go one way. Downhill.

Certainly makes you wonder if the rumours of a re-spin were true. I don't think I'd touch an AiO version atm, just in case something is amiss...

Well I know they start to throttle around 70c so was hoping it would keep it in the high 50's/low 60's at the max.

They're certainly hot little buggers.

Just out of interest, what were you expecting? And when you describe it as 'worse', would there be a benefit of them being lower than what they are?

I'd of thought they'd of been close to the temps seen with other AIO's like the Fury X but that's wishful thinking when you take the power usage into account..

You have me twice in the list Sir, the picture I've posted is the actual replacement of the faulty one I had before ;)

Certainly makes you wonder if the rumours of a re-spin were true. I don't think I'd touch an AiO version atm, just in case something is amiss...

The revision data in gpu-z certainly supports it.

I think I was being a bit hopeful too tbh.

As was I,

I originally paid £780 for an AIO and another £150+ on a Platinum 850watt psu, That's almost a grand to run a card using a chip they replaced for being unable to run in an air cooled enviroment.

I had some time for a tinker last night and noticed that after I had installed the beta update via the radeon software, the radeon thingy had vanished from the task bar (helpfully hidden already by win 10), and I didn't have it on a right click from desktop either. I downloaded it again from the AMD website reinstalled it, and everything was fine, didn't crash once all night.
