The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Just done a 20 minute bench of Firestrike, with a few overlays on screen for you guys to see what settings I'm at for future reference if needed. I've now dropped my core and voltage a tad for definite stability, this will be final 24/7 settings for gaming now. I've benched at 1750/1100 so at 1700/1080 it's given it a bit of breathing space.

I'm very impressed with the absolute solid core and memory clock speeds, just no dips or fluctuations at all. Interestingly only 63c on the Hotspot in GPU-Z and a max core temp of 39c and max HBM temp of 40c.

Some observations I've noticed with drivers 17.8.2 and 17.8.1.

I'm one of the people having issues running 17.8.2 with stock core clock and +50% power limit. My card passes benches but will crash while gaming on that driver. My workaround has been to up the p7 voltage to 1250mv or lower the p7 clock to 1727 while leaving the the voltage at stock 1200mv. With 17.8.1 my card runs fine at stock core +50% power limit but the clock peaks at 1752(which is also p7). On 17.8.2, when p7 is set to stock 1752 the card will often peaks around 1780 but even as high as 1802. When p7 is set to 1727 on 17.8.2 it typically peaks at 1752.

If the clocks are reading correctly on both drivers, given my observations it's reasonable to think my card is boosting too high on 17.8.2 and that's why it's crashing. The max boost clock for p7 on the AIO Vega 64 is 1750 according to Sapphire's Vega launch announcement. 1802 is a lot higher than that and I don't think all cards would be able to reach it and remain stable.

As a side note, lowering p7 to 1727 helps my card sustain higher clocks on 17.8.2 than leaving p7 at the stock 1752.

First impressions , the card is a pretty nice looking and feels solid , but it is quite a bit louder than the 1080 FE. Performance wise not so good.

Early benchmarks on UniEngine Heaven 4.0 with the usual 1080p settings shows it is some 600-700 points down vs the 1080 FE on all default settings.

Ill have a few more days playing with it and ill decide on which one ill keep and the other will be sold off.

That is undervolted, default it's 1150mv on state 6 and 1200mv on state 7. On an older driver I benched at 1750MHz whilst using 1100mv, but that was when we don't think the voltages changes or clock changes where being applied and reported correctly. And regarding the memory, on the reference air cooler (C1) chip, 1050mv is the default voltage for 945mhz. I've clocked to 1100mhz at the stock voltage and stress tested, but not tried altering the memory voltage as there is a known bug that happens when you change the votage of the memory. A 135mhz overclock on the HBM at stock volts is lovely.

What kind of temps are you getting with your AIO now?.
I take it your boost clock is 1750?.

Your tweaking made me go back and revisit my settings. Lowering the State 7 frequency and voltage actually allowed me to improve my Firestrike graphics score by a couple of hundred points. I didn't see any game in Firestrike Standard or Deus Ex though, so it's not a one size fits all tweak.

@AMDMatt Nice one buddy. I think in time with the ever improving drivers, it'll be an ongoing tuning session.

Must say, I'm very impressed with BF1 perf, even on DX11. The clock speeds and fps are flawless.

@NathG79 No worries, think we all need to just keep posting our findings in this thread for everyone just to piggy back off of.

I posted this on another forum a few days ago and posted last night about downclocking a bit. I find that my AOI runs the most stable clocks with p7 set lower than stock, so 1727 and lower voltage. 1100 and 1150 seems to work well except I'll still crash in some games with a +50% power limit on 17.8.2 with those voltages. At default voltage with 1727 the card is solid, I get higher benchmark scores and more stable clocks. I believe it has something to do with 17.8.2 over boosting the card causing some instability.

Here's my Superposition score with p7 set to 1727 at stock voltage.

Yes the boost clock is set to 1750 but it rarely actually goes much beyond 1700, maybe around 1710 running Timespy with the very occasional spike up to 1724. The temps are all dependent on the custom fan curve you set - if I leave it at the stock settings of max 2400 then the temps will approach the max limit of 70, I usually have the fan rpm set at around 2900 which keeps my temps close to 60. I haven't notice a significant reduction in temps after reducing the voltage but then this is why I never considered lowering the voltage on my AOI card; obviously for air cooled cards hitting throttling limit of 85 at stock, undervolting was the way to go to get the temps down but given the AOI cards temp is easily managed by a slight tweak to the fan settings I didn't envisage any benefit from lowering the voltage.

After mirroring and having had a play around with the tweaks TurboTony made, lowering the actual core clocks didn't boost performance for me, it was all about lowering the voltage which has given a much more solid max boost clock of over 1700 where before on stock voltages the clock was fluctuating between 1625 and 1700. I think this ties in with what @AMDMatt explained to us a while back to do with dynamic clocks and current spikes?

I'm on 17.8.2 with +50% power limit. Yes I can run either the stock voltages or 1100 and 1150 at any clock frequency up to 1777 without any issues or crashes. I get a more solid maximum boost and slightly better benchmark scores and the lower voltage though. There was no significant variance in my scores between having the core clock set to 1727 or 1752 at the 1100 and 1150 voltages.

Edit: Told I lie there - I can't bench over 1752 in state 7 without crashing at 1100 and 1150 voltages.

Another edit: Tried Time Spy with 1727 and 1752 on states 6 & 7 with 1100 and 1150 voltages - crashed.

It's really app dependent. Timespy showed no difference while superposition showed clear differences.

I'm definitely ****** about the fact my new(replacement) card won't run stock clock/voltages on 17.8.2. There's a 95% chance I'll return this card as well but I won't be buying another one. I've been an avid supporter of AMD, I also own quite a bit of stock, but RTG is seriously losing my confidence as a consumer and a shareholder.

I have my AIO in a push/pull setup exhausting out the back of my case with a corsair ML120.
Matching both the fans at 2900rpm and dropping voltage + higher memory clocks should see a combination of lower temps and better performance.
Going from 290x crossfire the difference is night & day even at stock clock's/voltage. pleased with Vega so far and like @AMDMatt says with driver updates this is looking like a very strong card. rnPZGMf.jpg

Pleasure mate. Take note though - I've just been running some more tests and whilst I had some great benches last night at the lower voltages, it's not playing ball today - getting crashes now with the lower voltages so it may not be absolutely stable for all AOI cards. Tony's card is an air card with a water block added so it may favour lower voltages more than AOI cards. AMDMatt has an AOI card and he got good benches with the voltage lowered at state 7 but then his card seems to the best of the bunch on here going on his benchmark scores. My card has been rock solid otherwise. Don't know why I'm getting crashes all of sudden with the lower voltages - is it possible to corrupt the drivers by pushing the card and getting system failures? It is worth doing a clean reinstall of the drivers do we think guys?

Status update:

Received my RMA back from OcuK, replacement GPU working fine. Received a refund on my other GPU and will wait for more stock before getting a replacement. Many thanks to Bailey and the team for the smooth process.

Just to be clear as i know there will be questions. :p

1st card: faulty returned and replaced with working card yesterday (4th card)
2nd card: Works fine and leads the bench threads.
3rd card: faulty and received a refund today.
4th card: Works fine.
5th card: Will be purchased when more stock arrives, to give me 3x RX Vega 64 AIO in total.

My second card is not as good a clocker on the HBM, will only hit 1075Mhz and requires a voltage bump of +0.050mv to hit that HBM speed. Not tuned the core yet.
