I do however need some help deciding on a motherboard with beefy enough VRM to tide me over for the next gen. I dont care about wifi as ill be hardwired in and i intend to run a nvme drive as a boot drive / regular software/game drive. Prob £300 is my max.

I need something i can just droo the 3600 in without any hassle, and has enough room to cover me for the next gen

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have a r5 2600 currently in a msi b450 pro carbon and im thinking about upgrading to the 3600. I game at 1440p with a vega 56. Is it worth it for gaming?

Nah, wait for Gen3. My R7 2700 and R5 3600 using same gpu (5700XT) show no difference.

The R5 2600 still holds up well today and you are gaming on 1440p, so I would go for the 4000 series that's coming out sometime late summer before upgrading.

Depending on the pricing come next weeks sales looking at dropping a 3600 or 3600x in my x370 and upgrading from the 1700. Loss some cores but gain clock speed.

Yah, that's worth it, imo. Got my R53600 on my B350. An upgrade from my R5 1600. If i stayed with the GTX 1060, i would have not bothered. With the 5700XT, it was worth it.

have this CPU paired with a b450 tomahawk max, is "game mode" supposed to be any good or make any actual difference? right now only thing I changed on Bios was PBO on

Similar to a post further up, is there much of a gain going from a 1600 -> 3600? Main issues I have are CPU bottlenecking in BF5 (although not really in any other games, they seem to all be GPU bound by my Vega 56) and the memory controller on my 1600 seems to hate my RAM, won't run the 3200 XMP profile at all without crashing all over the shop. I play at 1440p.

Yes, in your case. The cpu BN, though, may have to do more on your RAM. The R5 1600 at 3.9GHz and at least 3200MHz CL14 would be enuf for the Vega.

Yep, depends on the game but my Vega 56 is GPU bound in Overwatch and Far Cry 5 at least. See sig for specs.

Sorry to move slightly of topic but thinking of upgrading from my r7 1700 and am leaning towards one of these. However the 2700x is a similar price and was wondering if you guys could tell me if the 3600 is the way to go. I mainly game.

I'm in same boat and after watching benchmarks I'll be going for the 3600 or 3600x depending on price when it goes on sale later this week.

For a gaming build I would also pick the 3600 over the 2700X.
The 2700X makes more sense for a workstation build using applications that takes fully advantage of those 16 threads.

B450 msi pro carbon and Team Vulcan 3200 MHz have two inserted and another two on its way to have 32gb overall. Currently have it manually at 2933 or whatever it is.

Different than my mobo and ram. What I can suggest is entering the main ram timings manually and leaving the secondary ones on auto for the mobo to pick them.
