The Ryzen 5 3600 Discussion Thread

Thinking of putting this in my next build - is an after market cooler advisable even if not overclocking? My room temps aren't the greatest and i'm downsizing my build to a Node 304 or NR400, so it's a bit more of a concern, plus I have heard these chips do run extremely hot despite their efficiency over Intel.
Mine does not, if temps are an issue get a Dark Rock 4 Pro. I have it and usually my temps when browsing is low 30’s.

Getting an aftermarket cooler certainly make a difference to noise and thermals but is not essential even so I wouldn't spend too much else you might aswell get the 3700x which comes with a better cooler.

Something like this would do a decent job.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £23.73 (includes shipping: £2.74)

Ta, that's my problem with my planned builds at the moment, I reach a point where the expensive options actually look like reasonable upgrades. I'll stick to my guns and go with the 3600, guess I could always upgrade the cooler at a later date if the temps really do get toasty.

Right now my room tempo is 28.7C and CPU is 36C :)

It does jump to 46C when I load a new page though, but it is kinda very hot in here to be fair :p

System temp is a about 7C higher than usual.

Between having a 2400G and upgrading to a 3600 both using the same wraith prism cooler, the 3600 definitely runs a little hotter and seems to spike up quicker, but its still manageable overall to the point I dont worry about it. .

Admittedly, the 2400g used the stock cooler paste which when removed was quite dry, and the 3600 is sitting under a carbonaut pad ... so not the absolute best thermal interface on either of them.

Hi All,

I have the below spec and I am now looking to overclock,

Ryzen 3600 with Noctua D14 cooler
Ballistix 3600mhz 16-18-18-38
Tomahawk max b450

I have run prime95 and the cpu is hitting 75c after 30 minutes.

Will I benefit by overclocking the cpu or ram or both?

Any advice much appreciated.

Would try both, ram CL14 and or just push up speed, 3800 is as fast as you can if you got a good memory controller. When Going over 3600mhz ram speed you will need to manually set fclk which needs to be half the ram speed.

For CPU dial in 1.25-1.3 volts and and start at 4ghz and see how high you can get the CPU all core OC.

Thanks, what is the max temp I should be hitting on the cpu?

Hi All,

I have managed to a stable overclock to 4300mhz with a voltage of 1.2875 on Ryzen Master.

I tried 4400 up to 1.325v but all though Windows would boot cinebench would throw up an error and prime95 would cause a crash.

Am I better off trying to overclock in the bios instead of ryzen master?

Hey guys,

I have a Ryzen 5 3600 on a Coolermaster 212 Black RGB. My room temp is around 25 C right now and it's in a Fractal Design S case. My MB is a AsRock B550M Pro4.

I'm seeing high idle temps - using HWMonitor I see the following:

- Idle around 40-50C (I see lots of spikes but I hear that's normal?)
- Max 68C after some gaming on BF4
- Lowest 36C

https://imgur.com/Vc70ZKg - here's an image right now.

Questions:

1) I tightened the screws on the cooler, does'nt seem to have made much difference. I put the cooler on correctly with the right amount of thermal paste but I've just ordered some Artic Silver 5 to re-seat the cooler

2) I read some stuff about undervolting but I'm clueless - should I try to do that? Is there any easy guides where they just tell you what voltage to use?

Thanks

Max 68C with 25C ambient is fine. If you really want cooler temps you'll likely have to set a more aggressive fan profile. The 212 is low end cooler but easily good enough for the 3600.

If you are clueless don't bother touching any of the settings.

AS5 is unlikely to change the temps by more than a degree or two.

Hi guys,

Been using my mostly new setup, see sig, for a couple of weeks now and I'm a bit concerned about the idle temps... I've not even put the rig under any sort of pressure yet!

I've got fairly good cooling, or so I thought? I've not tweaked any settings in the bios yet apart from my ram - that's on the XMP profile that runs it at its advertised speeds :D

I've got a 2019 chip according to the box but I think that only matters with any overclocking.

Thoughts?

Hi there. Mulling moving from a 4790K to the 3600.

I have an Evo 212 keeping my current cpu cool. But I’m not sure where the box is with all the additional bits.

If I do get a new Mobo and the 3600, what do I need to buy to use the 212?

On latest windows and chipset drivers. As predicted, my score went up, even more than expected. @humbug @Psycho Sonny eat your heart out fellas :p;)

Been a while since I got my 5900X and I thought let me run a quick test to compare it with my trusty 3600. What a huge uplift in scores a year on :)

Keep in mind this was not run on a fresh install, so scores would be even a little higher potentially like was the case in the quoted post. Oh and not bothered OC'ing this beast yet either. All stock :D

When I got my 3600 it ran pretty hot with the stock cooler, even with Thermal Grizzly on it. I think I got a bit unlucky though too, it doesn't overclock well at all. Best I could get was 4.2 at 1.3v... PBO wouldn't even do 4ghz on all cores. At stock it would hit the 80s under stress. Got a Dark Rock Pro 4 which is huge, but it's now happy at under 65 in all realistic scenarios

Glad the new CPU is working out for you mate! :)
Thanks :)

I think I will just keep this long term now. It is plenty fast and can’t see why I would need more CPU power anytime soon. The only reason to upgrade will be because I fancy something new. Was considering staying with the 3600 and jumping on the AM5 platform, but this CPU is overkill already as it is. My 4770K lasted 6+ years so this should last just as long I would imagine if not longer.

Will be interesting to see how much more CPU’s will improve in the next 5 years now that there is competition. My next CPU will probably be on 3nm or smaller :D
