Are there any members playing this at the moment and if so does anybody have any helpful tips? At times it seems an incredibly difficult game to progress and improve at.

Dont be flexible in your builds, focus on getting a few points in a distinct build, Sword is great for SOLO stuff.

When you get past kingsmouth the AP starts to speed up and you can play around more. Some passive healing helps wonders.

@ Sleepery & SPG:

I'm at The Blue Mountain stage. Gone back to trying to help Ami to heal the land where wave after wave of those creatures attack but with total health/strength of just under 4000 I continually fail. Tried looking for those Rune stones as well but keep getting butchered.

Edit: love the game despite my slow progress.

I'm thinking about buying this game but have very very little experience of gaming and have never played an MMORPG game before.
Is this a good choice for me?

note that the usual mmo roles of dps/tank/healer only apply to group play in this game, you need to have a specific solo/survival build. there's quite a lot of "first 30/50" beginner survival builds you can look up on line.

Try mixing dps, healing and tank abilities as well as gear together. remember you can use passive abilities from any weapon tree in your build regardless of what weapon you are using.

Good early abiliies to get are turn the tables in the misc tree which is a decent "oh ****! self heal not affected by heal rating, lick your wounds is a passive fist ability (but as mentioned doesnt require you to be using fists as a weapon) which heals you a bit every time you hit. Assault rifles is very good for solo survival due to its leaching capability from anima shot etc.

ps check out this thread on the tsw forums!

Slap up an email address Hitman and I'll send you a buddy key, you can try it out first. It's not the simplest game to get the hang of, but the setting and acting are fantastic.

@ Ethan - Blue mountain is the speed bump in the game, it's where you find out your all-over-the-place build isn't as good as you thought :D First time I got there I ended up starting all over again and paying much more attention to what I was spending points on, ended up with a sword/fist based penetration build that did a lot more damage with a decent bit of healing thrown in, and it made Blue Mountain a lot more fun.

When looking at your skills, pay particular attention to skills for a particular weapon that don't actually need that weapon equipped. Lick your Wounds in Fists, for example, doesn't need a fist weapon equipped, but heals a small amount every time you attack. It only costs 2AP to get even if you're not speccing fists. There are few skills like that scattered around the weapon specs.

Edit - beaten to it by Jamie :)

I'd suggest either Neverwinter (free to play) or the venerable World of Warcraft (very newbie friendly)

I would never recommend nevrwinter, its awful. P2W and just boring game overall. I'd go with tera if you like that sort of combat.

Indeed. Neverwinter is the worst game I have played in the past few years.

I played TSW with a couple of friends when it was released last year and it got boring fast. I felt like I was just grinding for the skill points after a while and there was nothing else to do. I didn't feel as though it had any replayability either as you're basically doing the exact same thing but putting your points elsewhere. The most entertaining part of the game was the music. Certainly not a game for me, but you may enjoy tedious grinding...

I'd recommend Guild Wars 2 over World of Warcraft for a new player. I love both games, but GW2 has a lot more potential than WoW at the moment.

See now I found the opposite to be true. Tried Tera, bored me stiff. Whereas Neverwinter kept me going to level cap with the foundry missions. For a F2P game I thought it was good.

The worst? Really? You must be the luckiest person alive then as I've played far, far worse games than Neverwinter.

how is TSW a grind? by the time i had finished all the quests in the game, which are much less of a grrind than any other mmo (you know as pretty much every quest has an acheivememnt) i was ready for end game content such as elite dungeons leading on to nightmares, lairs and the newly added scenarios are pretty fun too. Its like playing a really good single player rpg which multiplayer option and once you reach end game you dont have to dedicate your life to a end game guild to progress, it can pretty much all be done in pickups.
i think seasoned mmo vets find the game difficult because it doesnt play by other mmos rules, its all abut adapting your skills to the situation, play it at its own rules and it becomes very fun.
