Personally i thought it was crap, just didn't do anything for me. Bring back the old settlers

My opinion:

Great start with Settlers 1 and 2 (peaked with 2). Good follow-ups with Settlers 3 and especially 4, although not reaching the original quality. After that it turned poor man's RTS with remnant econonmy building, and the DRM of Settlers 7 caused it to completely crash and burn, reagrdless of any possible game quality.
The remake of Settlers 2 (Generations?) was good though.

Are there any similar games - sort of building, growing, resource management that are not online?

What do you call this genre of game?

i heard from someone whos played it thats its great at first but it soon becomes a game of waiting for things to be build etc

It was called "The Settlers II 10th Anniversary Edition", but I think the translation from German was "The Next Generation".

Is this game good then? I liked Settlers 2, and having it updated into decent 3D graphics sounds like win

Yep, it's good. Only thing missing from the original Settlers 2 version is the ability to place a camera for an in-game extra window.

One irritation is that the settlers don't walk around- but always straight through each other. Looks a bit daft but I can live with that.

yep i got the last settlers game on steam and it was terrible so restrictive on where you can build, anno ****'s all over it

I quite liked Settlers 7, just wish it reached a wider audience...theres no one to play with and its criminal.

It deserved to be received a lot better imo.

I would have bought it if it didnt have the awful ubi DRM

However my brother gave me his game and his account that's how much he thought of the game and ubisoft. I only played for a few hours anyway

indeed. I found it a few hours of entertainment and then it became a massive borefest - cant build many buildings, have to level up, takes too long for anything to happen.
