*** The SKY F1 2012 Coverage Thread ***

Was watching the F1 on TV before coming to work, and watch the qualifying yesterday on Sky GO, but its not having any of it at the moment.

*edit*

Got it working evetually. Probably something my end.

The problem with Crofty is that he's excited and enthusiastic about everything, including things that are unimportant or quite dull. It feels forced, at least to me. I'll concede that he works better with Brundle than Legard did, but that's not saying much - you could say the same about an inflatable woman.

Agreed, I found crofty a bit annoying yesterday and really wanted to tell him to calm down.

Crofty suffers from the same problem that Leggard did, and thats coming from Radio. On radio you can't just keep quiet and let the pictures do the talking, you have to constantly describe whats going on.

The main issue with Leggard though was that he never learnt and continued like it for ages. Hopefully Crofty will lean from that and slow it down a bit.

Wasn't impressed with the little section pre-ad break.

"Let's look at JB's race" (start and finish) — eh?

"Sorry I'm going to have to interrupt you from your interesting and relevant point to ask you an innaine question about how pretty the McLaren is..."

I know it's only the first race but they are making the BBC look a lot more professional.

Crofty has done TV commentary for a while now as well, FP sessions plus other stuff. I found him to be a good lead commentator and with Brundle alongside him, so much better than the Brundle and DC combination.

It's probably a better commentary team than we've had in many years. Possibly going back to 2001.

Crofty's FP commentary was R5L Sports Extra as well as the BBC Red Button, so was still radio, he just kept talking though the bits where R5L cut to other news.

I liked the MB and DC combo, but it was clear that MB wasn't fully comfortably with being lead commentator (which he has since admitted is the case) and much prefers being the sidekick.

I'm thinking more pre/post race. Someone will mention something on here and I will disagree and they will say they heard it on the bbc footage and I will have to check that footage to see for myself... you know how it is :p

Yeah more post race would have been good. An awful lot happened and there was very little analysis of the incidents, especially all the stuff that happened on the last lap. They've got a whole channel to themselves, no ties to getting finished before Songs of Praise has to start etc but they still wrapped up without having analysed a lot of stuff. Hopefully they'll sort that out. I really enjoyed the Crofty/Brundle combo though.

Also their front guy (whose name I can't remember) is obviously not really known to anyone in the paddock yet and doesn't seem to have much doorstepping clout to grab people to interview so they probably need someone like a DC (ex driver type) who can go and grab people for a chat. Would have also liked to see an interview with Bernie on the upcoming season.

Despite Jake saying the BBC would do the Forum I didn't see it advertised, it's not the red button or the web site either.

I'm giving the Sky post race stuff the benefit of the doubt at the moment, its early days.

Plus, given the situation and my feeling that the BBC are looking for a way out all together, the Sky coverage is only going to get better while the BBC coverage is only going to get worse.

Good point about the post race analysis.

This is something Sky Sports do so well with the football, it's a bit odd that they don't seem to have much of a clue with the F1.

is anyone else able to get the full race with build up on skygo yet? i can only see a 10minute highlight at the moment, wanted to watch the build up and post race as woke up just for the race, also want to know for next week as i start work at 7 and dont have the ability to record and would prefer to find it officially instead of faffing with finding "other sources"

When the race is on BBC I will be using them especially as it means no adverts in practice, pre-race, after race etc, don't know why Sky think viewers will stick with an advert infested show when another is not having adverts.

Crofty made a fair few mistakes today but I am sure he will be just fine, worked well with Martin.

They wont, thats obvious, but I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of the viewers didn't watch the build up or post race shows anyway, so I doubt they are that concerned. They will have the exclusivity for the 10 live races BBC don't have.

I'd also want to see who they have. Jake, DC and Eddie comparing shirts won't hold a candle to MB, Crofty, Davidson, Damon, etc going though things in detail. The SSF1HD launch show showed the level of detail they can go into.

We shall have to see.

I imagine once I get in the habit of watching skys feed I won't even bother going to bbc, even though I miss Jake and detest croft I will live with it.

At best I will watch the forum re-run online.

BBC want out, this is the first step. Better get used to it guys because I doubt it will carry on. Adverts wouldn't even bother me if they do it the way of some europeans and leave the small window with the race on.

Plus when the BBC is gone theirs nothing to stop them cleaning up the better parts of the bbc crew.

Sky go worked so well. As I said before the cost to watch 10 extra races wasn't worth it but I've seen so much more on the other channels that interest me and the mrs to make it worth it.

Plus I've had a HD tv for about 7 years now and never once put anything HD on it. May as well give it a try ;)

Thought the Sky stuff was crap, Croft made more mistakes than Murray!

Also, their anchor man is pretty boring, doesn't seem an F1 type.

Georgie Thompson, meh, should have got Natalie Pinkham in there if they want a good looking women, who has at least had a year of F1.

Damon, Boremon Hill more like.

The only good thing that sky have got is Martin and Davidson

Also, no HD on Virgin? rubbish imo, they call the channel Sky Sports F1 HD but dont give Virgin HD?!

I would snap it up instantly on virgin if it was the hd offering. Couldn't have been worse than the bbc coverage. Random Irish pub guy with his "insight" was a complete joke - I actually miss ted!

Same. Theres a lot more on Sky that interests me than just the F1, which made stumping up the cash much easier. I also don't live in a Freeview HD area so this was my first race in HD. Oh my its so pretty :).

I like Crofty, he just needs to tone it down a bit.

I agree, but Jake wont jump ship, not until after the Olympics anyway.

I like Damon. Better than Eddie 'look at my shirt, listen to me rant rubbish' Jordan, and D 'Red Bull Red Bull Red Bull Red Bull look at my white trousers' C.

And Ted.

Hi, welcome to 3 months ago

I know, tell me about it! lol. Problem is we left Sky and moved to Virgin just as the channel was announced, total bummer, i dont know why Virgin dont carry HD tho, thats just weird.

Need to write to Usain, get him to sort it out.

Its because the HD channel is part of Sky's HD pack, something that they don't have a comparative pack on Virgin for.

They Sky Sports pack on Sky has the F1 channel in SD, so thats the same pack that you can get on VM.

Its a combination of there not being a pricing structure to support it, and Sky wanting to keep the best for itself.
