*** The SKY F1 2012 Coverage Thread ***

It will all be fixed next year though when Jakes gets his Olympic coverage out the way and jumps ship to Sky to replace Simon :D

Mostly this.
"So Ant, say something technical and play with the fancy telly and I'll stand here and stick ma boobs oot"
.
sometimes shes been wearing something revealing and from a side profile you can see her beer belly sticking out :(

i'd rather simon than matey jakey , sky should have took the scotish bird that did the bbc interviews

Lee McKenzie?

Meh, I don't think the pitlane interviewer role is a big enough job for us to worry about who does it. Natalie Pinkham is doing a pretty good job so far.

Unless you mean they should replace Georgie with Lee, in which case I 100% agree.

yea i mean she should have been the person in georgies role

Then I totally support your suggestion.

Tbh, anyone with a vauge understanding of F1 would be better in that role.

She's no good as a presenter, and she's not hot, so what's the point?

They have got some key people right (Crofty, Brundle, Ant)

Disagree on those two, now he's not lead I don't think Brundle gets involved enough in the commentary, and Crofty seems like he can't not be saying something every second of the race, perhaps that's a side effect from being a radio presenter.
The race commentary is, IMO, the most important single part of it, and I don't think Sky are doing a good job there.

Yeah, her role is kind of pointless. She travels thousands of miles with the whole Sky crew... to stand in front of the Skypad for an hour a weekend, and perform dull, high level interviews with F1 staff.

Anthony Davidson has proved he has the knowledge and skill to present the whole feature by himself and remain entertaining without being prompted by her 'everyman' questions.

I think she should be removed completely and not replaced.

Sky's approach is far to gimmicky for my liking and to much corporate guff going on. Cant fault there coverage just a shame there's going to be no getting away from them plastering everything and everyone in Sky logos.

It certainly makes you appreciate the BBC's approach to lack of advertisement/branding.

I won't be watching F1 on the beeb this year, so won't be able to comment on their coverage.
I do know that they let us F1 fans down by selling the coverage to sky. You can't blame sky for taking advantage of a business opportunity.

Personally I find the sky coverage more than acceptable I like Georgie as a presenter, I like Ant on the skypad and I think Lazenby does an adequate job as a presenter. Further more Sky Control is miles better than the BBC web page and I am sure it will be developed more.

What I used to hate about the BBC and ITV coverage was the 'cooking with an F1 driver' type stuff. So far sky have been much more focused on the actual sport.

For what it's worth I found Jake just too cockey and Eddie too much of a clown. If you like top gear style presenting, that's great.

I would rather not pay and watch the races live, which I still could do if I put up with german adverts.

The thing is Sky HD is so much better than the beeb attempt, it's almost worth the cost just for that, oh and also the fact that I get to watch the BTCC in HD as well now.

So in a nutshell, I am a very happy Sky customer.

It was very interesting to see the viewing figures though, but then the 4m that watch the BBC probably are the casual viewers F1 should be trying to get to.

Crofty has massively improved over just 3 races from the Radio style motormouth he was at the start of the season.

And MB has said he prefers being co-commentator rather than lead. I think he's doing a good job, plus I think his insight elsewhere and his grid walks are brilliant.

Yeah, I think Ant could do a better job just on his own. Hopefully Sky are listening to their fans. While most of the rest of the team has split opinions, I think everyone is united in thinking Georgie should go.

I just wish the red button content on Sky was also in HD, other than that their coverage is excellent and I have no real problem with any of the team, they seem to be a lot less partisan towards the Brits as well, which is great compared to the biased BBC coverage.

Also a lot less Horner and Red Bull on Sky, the BBC seemed to have a deal with them...

It's the same across Sky, they haven't quite worked out how to get the interactive stuff in HD, it's the same with the Football Match Choice. It will be great in HD.

Does anyone have a link to the radio channel video, the same as the last 2 weeks? I've been checking the usual place ( http://www.dailymotion.com/Mattzel89#video=xpnl6r ) but there's no sign of this weeks yet.

Georgie is very wooden but then Ant is great with the Skypad (love the skypad bits)

You have to remember that Natalie and Simon are new faces to all of F1, Once the teams and drivers get to know them better it will all feel more fluid (Although Natalie seems to do a decent job with the drivers.... I wonder why? :p)

I'm enjoying the coverage, Don't miss Eddie or DC (Mr redbull) one bit. I'm happy with my choice, In the end that is all that matters. :)

I agree.

And if the rumoured figures *****ey posted are right, thats an overall increase in viewers, exactly what Bernie said.

According to those figures approx 25% of the viewers are watching on Sky compared to terrestrial......No way of knowing yet exactly how many "extra "viewers Sky has persuaded to subscribe (ie how many havent been watching F1 on BBC/ITV prior to this), which is what Bernie is suggesting

What about the non- BBC races, Sky are being completely slaughtered (or comparing viewers for the whole season which might be fairer to Sky,to give them 8 months or so to get their figures/race up)

Sorry but anyway you look at it Bernie was completely wrong imo

As stated in the Bahrain thrread, Im wondering if Sky havent missed a trick by not allowing people to subscribe to Sky Go seperately (or whatever their mobile app is called)...ie those that dont have any choice and arent able to have a dish etc - given that it wouldnt be hd (and probably limited), I would be happy to subscribe if it was cheap enough JUST to use on a mobile device.

People might complain about the TV licence, but for the quality of coverage it gets us on everything the BBC does its dam good value for money.

Exactly, but why do people still complain.
It also pays for the radio as well does it not?

ROFL

What Bernie said was that more people would be watching F1. All the viewer figures so far support that.

And when looking at total viewing figures you have to look at it as a potential of total audience. Even when using the largest possible Sky figure (10m) they are on par with BBC figures from last year.

It pays for the infrastructure that provides Freeview which is now a lot of channels, and a lot of the content that's on the 4 BBC channels and 7 (maybe more) BBC Radio Stations.

Compared to what it funded 10 years ago its a complete steal.

And Frank, you can subscribe to just Sky Go. Bit of a rip off though.

Natalie Pinkham was pitlane reporter for R5L for the last couple of years and worked with David Croft and Ant Davidson there too.

Yeah Entertainment and Sports is £35. Something you can get on a TV subscription for £40 a month including a Sky+ box.

But you can buy just a month of Sky Go, whereas TV subscriptions are 12 month contracts.
