The Snowsports Thread 2015-16

Hi All,

It turns out I may have the opportunity to get away this year after all.

Does anyone have any recommendations for late availability dead? 3 people, not really fussed on accommodation.

I've done the usual google search but any knowledge of privately run chalets with flight packages are welcomed.

Many Thanks

A colleague told me about this......(I haven't checked them out yet, but prices don't seem too bad):

My wife and I had our first snowboarding lesson last night...It was fantastic!

Our instructor was wearing quite thin gloves, would anyone be able to recommend some good thin gloves suitable for boarding that aren't up in the £30 range. Looking for something to help make the constant binding undoing and doing up easier then when wearing our classic snow/winter gloves.

If there is anything that could be recommended that falls in to the £15 price range that would be ideal, otherwise we will hold off until we get some more slope time and want to consider more gear.

You shouldn't have any trouble with gloves, probably just need a bit of practice!

Even with double layers of gloves I've not had problems with bindings....when you're up top of the mountain in -20C with the wind whipping through you don't want to be taking your gloves off!

I was fine, it was my wife who struggled, she has small hands which doesn't help!

Lima. I hate you! ;)

5.15am alarm for our transfer and it has snowed in Sauze d'Oulx town for the first time in a month. Was around 2-3 inches when we left there and still snowing heavily! Have a great one! The 'Village Cafe' although it's in a weird place (walk down some steps) has amazing food and pizzas :)

Ha! We got insanely lucky. It completely dumped with snow 3 times in the week and also had light snow in between. Ended up actually being decent conditions.

Very lucky! According to the guy on our hotel reception it hadn't snowed in the village/town since the 14th January... Even then it had cleared quickly! :(

When we got there sunday it was warm, our first day boarding on Monday (1st Feb) it was sheet ice as they'd had a sunny weekend followed by a hard freeze sunday night. It was 15/16 degrees in the village, only the wind on the slopes above bringing the temperature closer to zero. I think I still have some bruises from that first day!

Spoke to one guy in our hotel who had visited Sauze the same week for the past 4 years and never seen it without snow so we were just unlucky. Glad you had a good one! :)

just got back from a week in Austria, St.Anton to be precise. 7th time to the place and I would still go back. Just fantastic, got there with good snow but dumped all night and all day to give 30cm fresh snow. The powder was amazing.

One thing I will take away is to never go hotel again, chalet is the way forward, met some fantastic people and had some great laughs.

Quality video!!

Thats a great Video :)

Do people think this trend of good weather will last into March? I hope so :)

I hope it lasts for a good while yet.

I'm not off this year to Les Sybelles until the March 25th, have been lucky most years in late March, this year however it's a 2 week trip so fingers crossed!

4 more days till my skiing trip in Italy.

Been glancing at this daily as it's much more accurate within 7 days.

Noticed the prediction on Sunday :o:o:o:o:o:o 65cm to be dropped in one day.

It'll be very nice to ski on fresh snow on the Monday, but i have a feeling Sunday will be one of those cold blizzardy days that's not going to be too much fun. Oh well :D

Just back from an awesome week out in my old stomping ground; Courchevel.

Snow was amazing, best I can remember for quite some time

Whilst I was there I finally picked up the custom off piste skis I got made for me (my design and dimensions etc..), there isn't another pair like this on the planet :)

Is anyone here a member of Ski Club of Great Britain or has been?

Just wondered if people thought the membership (Platinum £69/Year) was really worth it?
