*** The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Thread ***

How are people finding this phone. Need too get my Aunt a phone and shes always been a Sony fan but didn't want a glass back in fear of it breaking. Or should I wait too see how this new X line turns out? Her budget is around £300 which works well with the Z5 compact.

Hi - this phone is great - the perfect size (for me anyway), decent enough camera and good battery life (although the z3 compact lasts longer). I hope the update coming soon will help improve this a touch. I don't get the X series phones at all - the Z phones are pretty much superior in every way bar the CPU upgrade.

I've decided to buy one of these in black, as my Moto G (1st Gen) has started to go downhill...

Just waiting on my nationwide £50 Amazon Voucher to order...

I'm in the same boat, got one new off ebay for £270. Just getting the warranty confirmed then i'll get everything swapped over. I like the moto g but the 1GB of ram, non expandable storage and poor camera are holding it back.

Battery is my main issue... Two days ago after staming music for 2 hours over 3g, battery level was reported at 100%...this was without it being charged for the past 12 hours...i put it on charge anyway for a while. When i took it off after 30 minutes it was down to 30%...

If at any point it goes at 20% the battery saver kicks in and then immediately shuts down... It will then turn on (when on charge for about 5 minutes) as if i have just upgraded android, and start optimising apps for a good 20 minutes...

My battery is still fairly good except when I really hammer it. I've had a couple of instances of running my running tracker app, spotify and the torch and it'll cut out at 30% and won't restart. As soon as I plug it in it'll report 30% again.

I love mine. Such a huge speed boost over the Moto G, along with the better camera and expandable storage it's amazing.

My case taste leaves something to be desired

Having had the phone for a few days, I have to say I am rather impressed with the battery life.

The below is with a screen on time of about 4 hours, during which I was using GPS through google maps.

Does anyone know what the max read and write speeds for the SD card are? I seem to bottleneck at about 40MB/s read 30MB/s write, using a kingston with advertised 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write speeds.

I did a couple of benchmarks of my Integral 128GB UltimaPro and got results all over the place. Sometimes I would get (sequential) reads and writes above 100MB/s, other times at 0.15MB/s. I just ignored it.

However I manually copied a 2GB file from the internal storage to SD and back. Write to SD maxed at 12MB/s and read from maxed at 40MB/s.

I got another card from Amazon as a replacement and it benchmarks exactly the same, so I guess it might be a limitation of the phone. In any way 40MB/s is not exactly bad.
