Im getting this message when copying a recorded TV programme(win media centre HTPC) across my network (wirelessly) to my main pc for conversion to ipod format.

The annoying thing is that it doesnt happen every time I try to do this type of transfer. Googling has led me nowhere conclusive. Any ideas gratefully received.

Normally it a cryptic indicator that either you wireless connection is borderline or MCE is mucking up the permissions/security. I find copying the file from the HTPC to the second computer (as opposed to copying it from a window on your main rig) solves the problem.

thanks for the replies.

The status of the signal is that the speed is 108Mbps but the signal strength is very low. I've often wondered at the significance of this. I suppose this very weak signal is more liable to drop out completely then?

Ive got a home plug networking kit lying around. I'll give it a whirl to see if I get a stronger(but slower) signal.

cheers

if the signal is low it may well be interference pushing the signal to drop completely occasionally, im not that clued up on wirless but you could use a second router or access point as a repeater and increase the signal strength in that area

or you could just use the home plug networking kit :D

Using the homeplug kit seems to be the answer, but I may well try doing the transfer from the wireless pc just for the hell of it!
