The static created when i plug my headphones into my laptop.

Is there a way of removing the sound when i plug my earphones into my laptop but have nothing playing?

It's a static/whine type noise that fluctuates a lot.

It's noise from the processor circuits and the mains adapter combined with a poor design (read "cheap") for the headphone amp. You could spend a small fortune on a linear power supply but still not cure it completely.

There is an answer. It might not be practical for you, but I'll chuck it out there for consideration: Try a USB sound card.
