Returning some videotapes
I have 1Tb of hard disk space - and its completely full. The majority of it is backed up on DVD (The important stuff anyway), and I have an external drive as a double backup which I do so every 2 weeks to a month.

My issue is What to do about extra space? I need another Hard disk but my PC wont fit another HD, and a 1Tb Hard disk is very expensive indeed. Surely some of you are in the same situation? What have you done to solve it?

I'd like to have a RAID mirror solution in addition to my current setup - anyone know of any decent but not too pricey RAID boxes? Am I going in overkill with the RAID option? Howabout a NAS - is this a viable option?

Anyone else feel that Hard drives arent increasing in size quick enough!

Chrisp7; How many hard drives do you have in your PC? Surely you can fit 6 hard drives inside it? Why not buy some 500GB drives, RAID 1 stuff you dont want to lose, or buy some external caddies and just do a manual backup of everything if your really that worried.

You could auction some of your older smaller hard drives to help towards replacing with the 500GBs. And dont forget, your not the worlds fileserver ;) Delete stuff you will never watch/listen/use again ;)

I have a small case there are only x2 5.25" slots and one of my HD's (Both 500Gb) is mounted on the bottom of the case - I may be able to suspend another internally, but its not the best solution.

I'll have another look through my data but pretty sure I wont delete much, I cant!

I am looking for a longer term solution, and am thinking a RAID box is the best way to go. If only Blu ray were better priced!

Is buying a larger case not an option? Then as previously said whack in a few more 500GB drives..

Not really, I want a small and silent case - took me a while to get it just right. In the long long run a server would be the solution - however in a small room its not an option yet.

buy a new 500gig drive
dangle it and copy accross everything you dotn expect to need for a while
stick it back in its packaging and put in a wardrobe.

volla, 500gig free. nothing lost.
