The Story of Red Cloud is a massive adventure-style mod for the sandbox building game Terraria. Citing inspiration from The Legend of Zelda and Dark Souls, the mod takes a massive step away from its source, knocking out most of the creative aspects in favor of traditional combat and exploration. This isn't the Terraria you've grown to love, nor is it a happy romp through a flower-filled land of bunnies (though there are bunnies). The Story of Red Cloud is a challenging game filled with secrets to find, items to hoard, dungeons to explore, and gruesome deaths to narrowly avoid.

Major changes from Terraria to The Story of Red Cloud include a narrative-driven plot (though it's light on text), almost 200 new items, weapons, and pieces of equipment, eleven new bosses, a dozen unique dungeons, a custom soundtrack, and a hand-crafted world where paths are carefully laid out to lead you to towns, dungeons, caves, and hidden secrets.A lot will be familiar to anyone who has played Terraria, but even more will be brand new.

The Story of Red Cloud was created by Tim Hjersted along with a number of folks from the Terraria modding community. We don't often feature reviews of mods on JayIsGames, largely because they tend to require convoluted set-up procedures, but The Story of Red Cloud is a notable exception. A handy installation guide comes with the download, so once you have your copy of Terraria ready to go, you can get the mod up and running within just a few minutes. All you have to do is install a mod manager and a launcher, then copy some files to folders you create. It isn't as awkward as it may sound, and it's a safe process that won't destroy any existing data you have. Plus, The Story of Red Cloud is totally worth the effort!

No replies, i'm surprised

1.0.7.4
Fixed Wyverns not dropping souls after defeating the Wyvern Mage

1.0.7.3
Jungle Wyvern and Demon Spirits no longer drop the Molten Pickaxe. You must defeat the Wall of Flesh and craft the dropped Pwnhammer into the Molten Pickaxe to progress. Fixed Souls of Sight bug that caused them to act like Dark Souls. Dark Souls can now be viewed in the Guide's crafting Wiki. Dark Souls still cannot be viewed by the guide but this may change later. A small amount of Dark Souls drop from the Eater of Worlds on subsequent deaths. King Slime drops 500 dark souls on each defeat in addition to its first-time drop. Fixed Bow of Earendil and gave it a boost. Now does more damage and knockback, aims precisely, and has auto-use, but no longer pierces through walls. Gave the Corrupted Tooth another secret ability. Gave the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring 3 defense. Added some ocean biome enemies to all deep waters on Hard D. Fixed Bloodred Moss Clump so they can no longer be crafted with stone block. Fixed NPC spawn house for Orgon the demolitionist. Added sign in Eater of World's second arena indicating you can beat the two EoW's separately if you fail to defeat them together the first time. Also added bombs to starting area so you can immediately go to the Earth Temple via the tunnel entrance. Changes mostly affect the mod.

V1.0.8 late tonight or tomorrow

Over the past day or two, the game has gotten a series of quite significant updates, including two three new playmodes, including a super-easy mode, for those who are afraid of the stiff death penalty, an evil difficulty mode for those who thought the combat in general was too easy, and a sandbox mode for those who want a bit more freedom in exploring the hand-crafted dungeons. This is especially important, as on easy-to-evil modes, you cannot mine your way through ‘barrier’ pieces or place blocks at all anymore. This is all dungeoneering, all the time, with only a few small exceptions.

Other updates include improved enemy AI, especially among the new enemy types, and various balance-related tweaks and tunings regarding item drop rates. You can find the new version and the full change-log on this Terraria Online forum thread. The installation process for the mod is a little convoluted, but it’s well worth the effort if you’re finding yourself tired of the ‘vanilla’ gameplay. Highly recommended if you’re in the market for something a little more challenging than usual.

Had a quick go at this earlier. Looks like it'll be pretty cool. Got my Mining Set on and just got to the town and had a 'quick' look at what you can craft with the Dark Souls. The list is about 2 miles long.

Very cool mod. So much detail in it.

Started out searching a flooded mine with Shine potions before finding a Mining Helmet/Jacket/Pants, got to a town and crafted a load of Throwing Spears. Went exploring some caves, found enough Leather to make myself some Studded Leather Armour. Bit further on, had an awesome fight in an underwater arena with the Eater of Worlds using Gills Potions to survive and just crafted myself a Shadow Cloak set (upgrade set of Shadow Armour) and about to go and explore the east side of the starting point that you can't reach initially. Also got myself a combined Regen/Starband and a Light Cube (a buffed up Orb of Light as an accessory to replace the Mining Helmet).

Bookmarked.

Will go back to Terraria at some point, defeated the big wall thing about 6 times then took a break from it.
