Hi all and welcome to the official Team10 subteam thread!

following on from this and this I've decided to take it apon myself to organise (and I use the term losely) Ocuk's first Subteam.

the aim - combine resources to outstomp the 'mentals'
the place - Team 10
the time - Thursday 8pm (aka after the news stats take off)

All that's needed is a name. [Team10] works for me but I'm all ears untill Thursday evening you've got 48h to post your ideas - I'll select 5 and we'll vote on the best.

Remember that it will preseed all your uses names for example
[team10] shadowscotland
[Chip Shop Curry Flavour] shadowscotland
[HMSstompie] shadowscotland
[silly] shadowscotland

Whitestar is living proof that multipule smaller outputs when compined give massive numbers - Just knows a good thing when he see it ;)

But you're one of the mentals we're trying to catch!
hint, hint

So how about it you two - got a single cruncher you'll willing to add? page 1 in one week is a realistic goal

And? I've only got one crucher in my ownership - and thats going in the sub team.

Edit: if anything of all the members here, it's the single crunchers that this sub team will help the most. (with the possable exception of cob & co ;) )

As to the stats site SB - can you see this

Ever since I've been here I'd like all our active users on page one of EOC.
If you've got a pc (or farm) and can get you their in a month, then the sub team is not for you.
Long term users with stats in the 500k and above are most welcome but again would see limited direct gain (unless their just adding 'one' cruncher to the fray for a second level to single cruncher compertition)

If the sub team can't generate 5-10k ppd it's not really meeting it's aim, to compete agains the mentals, but the -configonly flag will revert sub team production back into it's indervidual members as fast as it created it.

SB - your comment is valid but unlikely. more likely page one will include.

The mentals. (god love them)
The die-hards, old school (inc you and my office farm)
The Overachivers, new school SMP crunchers (cob and co)
The sub team
Any alliances
Any C2D owners
Any one else that did it the hard way (took me a few months to get to page one)
Current active residents

So what you are essentially suggesting is that all the single machine crunchers could join one sub-team and stomp their way to the top whilst maintaining the current level of competition between themselves.

In a word almost - in many ways what your saying would be easier.

But I'd add two extra guidelines -
1) it's open to ALL folders
2) and ALL single cruncher don't have to join.

Each crunching devise has it's own id (as it's designed for single crunchers afterall) even if you feel like entering two.

But I guess most people with two or more crunchers will go it alone anyway

all I'd ask is people give it a go for two weeks - if it doesn't work or you don't think 'it's for you' just fold under your original ID :D

So far for names we've had (some submitted my e-mail)

[OcUK]
[OcUK Stompalot]
[Team10]
[SCL] -single cruncher league
[parpmonster]
[PPP] premo pressi pressum (to squeeze, press down, strike down) don't ask
[old_stompie]
[teamwippersnapper] or [tws]

As to stats the team gets a collective entry that will apear on EOC and Stanford, but each member of the team gets their own breakdown within that (see links above via jo's orginal sub team thread) so you've the best of both.

As to multipul teams I've no problem with that at all - just thought i try out one first to see how it goes - what happens after that is anyones guess :D

Thanks for the feedback guys - so there you have it, many of the die-hards and mentals are laying down the gauntlet, with their own production.

They've painted themselves EOC 'target' red, and I've just opened a whole
subteam sized tin of ronseal woop arse 'does what is says on the tin'.
Plenty going spair for all members :D

if theirs no more new sub team name nominations, these Three seam the
best so far, simple, short and no spaces.

[stompalot] topical
[OcUK] obvious
[PPP] latin wildcard

but I'm not inspired by any of them so I'll have a think......

....(half hour later)

[SIR]

This work on three levels
- Firstly on a practical level, sir 'username' works with everything
(SIR WoZZeR, SIR Brightside, SIR shadowscotland etc, etc)

- Secondly it relavent, we've been calling each other 'sir' when Tiffy are posted,
milestones reached or just general good folding behaviour :D .

- Thirdly it stand for Subteam Infra Red
If the targets, sorry fellow members are EOC red the subteam needs
a 'higher' colour. Infra-red

so there're your five choices fokes.

[stompalot]
[OcUK]
[PPP]
[sIR]
[SIR]

Edited to aplease the spelling dons (appease I know it's a joke)

Basically, using that special stats site linked, by putting [OcUK] (for example) at the front of you're name, you can enter into a sub-team. This will allow a group of lower-production people to take on the crazy’s of the folding world as a team. Using the special stats site, you can monitor the progress of the team and yourself within it.

Almost - it's not specific to lower-production people, I'm entering my home rig that good for 1000ppd, and I'd encourage all the single machine crunchers to join up even cob. The points you gained so far don't disappear, and the group total will hopefully be overtaking A.N.O's@230k in about 4-7 weeks!

Obviously, changing your name means that you would be starting from 0 again
True, but their nothing to say you can't add your scores together. :p
But everyone that joins today will all start at the same time, so new members can gauge themselves against the long timers - nothing like a level playing field to encourage competition and banter :D
The difference between this and a competition (with temp. ID's) is that all the subteam members are also gaining an on-mass official score to match that of the mental’s here in team10 and the many other's around the world.
Now Stans gone we don't have anyone in the top 100 producers representing Team 10 (growse is 130th on current ppd)

Personally, I think I'm going to stick to slowly stomping away by myself - it taken me the best part of 2 years to get this far, so I'm not about to let it all go.
I've nothing against the slowly getting somewhere brigade, after all I'm leaving the rest of the farm on my lemonman ID@1200ppd, I just think its a wasted opportunity to get Team10 back in the World 100.
If every member added one cruncher (their best preferably but I know that is very unlikely) to the subteam the output would put team ten squarely on the map in both the team leagues and the user leagues (9200ppd gets us top 100)

Edit: Just taking this weeks single cruncher league results, and excluding the top 5 - the combined total gives 67,400 points for the week (9.6k ppd) job done 96th in the world.
Add the top 5 and it's 131,874 (18.8k ppd) and we're 32th!

Ok I see your point (and in all honestly I totally agree) - but I don't beleave for one second that their are a hundered stans out their in the world with personal high proformance farms on their companies electric bill ;)

Now IT managers with an office/school to borg maybe, and surly a borg is only one step away from a folding friend? I'm not trying to over justify this - at this stage it just a test that has the potential of becoming a perminant feacture. I'd also like to point out that it's very name (due to the brackets) proves its a team so their no misunderstanding.

Ok that said, on to the details:
their is only one subteam at present and as only one person expressed a preferance we'll use [SIR] (edited)

As WoZZeR rightly said you just need to stop the client and run the -config or -configonly flag.

Finstall user, should try something like this (but it didn't work for me - typical)

cd to foldingathome then open fah_config. Add the flags between the quotes in the file.

gedit ~/foldingathome/fah_config

FAH_flags"-configonly"

User names - this would be mine: [SIR] shadowscotland

so as Mr.B said "all under different names with the same prefix" the space is optional

and cell one has a serviceable maid

Edit: started writing this post hours ago - my little one woke up screeming and i'e just had dinner so apoliges for the delay - oh and I'm still struggling with ubuntu (again)

to late billy (but thanks anyway) killed folder and redid finstall - but it's not happy rebooting now

Edit: Ok to answer MGP question each user starts afresh on EOC and Stanford see here and here it's just Kakao that combines them :o - so all that stuff about top 100 is rubish (sorry should have checked) and rich your stats will be fine

Edit2: I'm off

[22:31:02] - Ask before connecting: No
[22:31:02] - User name: [SIR]_shadowscotland (Team 10)
[22:31:02] - User ID: 3CA48F4B61521CC3
[22:31:02] - Machine ID: 1
[22:31:02]
[22:31:02] Work directory not found. Creating...

Edit3: must go to bed - another early start tomorrow :(

to be honest - I'm starting to think the same. But I guess if it's successful the sticky could be changed to the subteam id is generated first, if the member then finds 20 pc to borg he/she sets up their farm ID. I'm sure Eoc will start using subteam scriptes (but then again if SB is having problems reading kakao site maybe not....)
As to checking yet another site - I'll just subsitute kakao for Eoc.

we'll give it two weeks and see what happens.

More important is I've gone and set up a [SIR] id when it should have been [stompalot] :o  and my ubuntu VM crashes after two steps :(

we'll stick with [SIR] but as I'm only at 3 persent I'm happy to change it using billy advise.

Edit: ubuntu now stable and just reread posts and looks as if I only said stompalot one (which I've edited), then ignored it with the example and setup post. [SIR] is is then, and thanks to ms9cw for confirming this on his post in the news thread

[SIR] WoZZeR

Firstly I'd recomend that you use the -oneunit flag to finish the current WU(and not the delete folder and run finstall again route - but i don't know how to with linux smp :o and every time i 'try' to do the right thing or update or upgrade i get problems :( so i really should learn to leave it alone, but I know I never will :D )

Anyway you've three choices. Either enter the smp client into the subteam or the GPU client. (or both but that slightly defeats the point of a single cruncher team but does make your monitoring easier)

1) to add the smp client to the subteam -

cd ~/foldingathome
./folding stop

cd ~/foldingathome/CPU1
./FAH504-Linux.exe -configonly (change this to be whatever your console client is called.)

Set user name to [SIR] WoZZeR.

cd ~/foldingathome
./folding start

2) to add the GPU client

stop client, use the -configonly flag, restart service (or from shortcut) and your done.

3) both of the above but for the first two weeks I'd be greatful if you just add the one client and let the other get you to page one via the long road.

Only problem with multipule members folding under one ID is you lose all personal stats - I guess 'Team ms9cw' can see whats happening as there're only two of them.

@Team ms9cw - drop me an e-mail and I'll give to a link to a tracking site I use for my farm that might help.

@MR.B - are you proposing that I kill the subteam then - as far as I know I'm the only one that official swaped my rig over but it will be hours untill it submits the SMP WU.

@WoZZeR - looks like the tide is againest us (and with sensible reason) - if you want to folder under my ID your welcome (that will please snap :D )
if so I'll update my sig accordingly
or just carry on as normal.
