I've been getting loads of landline phonecalls ('International - Out of area' comes up on my phone screen) over the last few months from the 'Technical Department of Computers'. It's a scam. I've told them where to go several times, in fact once, after swearing at this indian woman who had called me, she actually rang back just to call me an a.hole and then put the phone down, lol.

Today, this indian man rang from the same so called 'Technical Department of Computers'. They usually start with a "hello sir, my name is... how are you today?" so you immediately know it's some kind of salespitch or scam. He gave me the usual stuff about how I've downloaded malware. I decided to play along and wind him up. When I asked him to tell me what malware I have he couldn't answer, just skirted around it. I said you should know what malware I have. Then he wanted me to give him my pc id number so he could compare it to his. I said you tell me what number you've got first. He didn't tell me. Anyway, after a while he started being rude to me saying "why do you keep asking me the same questions?" I said "because you're a really stupid idiot who never answers my questions". He reads from a script and hardly lets you get a word in. Then I told him to f off very loud, slowly and clearly twice, to which he disconnected, :D. Don't fall for it guys. I googled it, and found this link.

My mum gets them all the time, tho she only has basic PC skills she loves playing them along just randomly using technical sounding jargon and they are never any the wiser :S

I never get exciting phone calls like this! :(

I am just glad my family know not to listen to some mush on the phone when it comes to the computer. :)

i also never get these phone calls :( i would love to wind them up.

the problem with these is. there are many people with basic computer skills, that would fall for this scam.

can you report this to trading standards?

Hmm, on one hand i do get really annoyed with this kind of thing, on the other hand, these people are only doing the job they are paid for.

I hate being rude to salespeople on the phone to the point where i actually say - please don't make me be rude but if you don't stop pitching i will be.

I've never had one of these calls although I've had lots of friends tell me they have. I am looking forward to the first one I get.

Some great sport will be had, oh yes. :D

There is a difference between telesales and an outright scam!

You say this because it is funny at first, but once you've had at least 5 calls a day, every day for more than 3 years - I $*** you not - it begins to loose it's humour.

Phone bt, and they will do something about it after a couple weeks (once enough people have complained and it's been traced and it'll stop. Expect to have them harassing you in another couple months.

P.s. is anyone can work out how to block International - out of area on Panasonic phones, I'll be most appreciative :)

Edit: nvm, sussed it :D

I already rang BT months ago and there's nothing they could do. They already blocked (on my request) other spam callers a long time ago, but can't seem to stop these scammers.
