My dad spilt a load of oil over the TFT screen on his laptop and there is basically no image where the oil has seeped through, it is just white i think. I sure that there is no way this can be repaired but my dad is convinced that by somehow cleaning the oil off the TFT screen, it will work again.

Please can someone tell me this cannot be done so I can tell my dad to stop wasting his time and bugging me :)

Aye hes wasting his time lol

Cheers for that. My dad likes his DIY so he likes to think he can takes things apart and put them back together again to make them work.

If he is Mr DIY, he should be able to get a replacement screen for the lappy. Not too hard to source. Depends on the model of laptop.

Another simple solution I have done for a couple of damaged laptop owners is to totally remove the damaged screen and it's casing. We then used the external VGA connector. This can then be connected to a nice new TFT from OCUK. ;)

If the machine is mainly used at the same desk all the time, this looks quite neat.

If he ends up buying a new laptop, then get him some plastic bags he can put the laptop into when he is working in his workshop.

Also, if he takes it apart you might find a component that you can more readily smash him over the head with.

LOL :p
