So I spent the majority of the long weekend sipping Gin and watching this...

HOW DID I MISS IT?!?! I was always under the impression that it was a political drama of sorts (which I guess it sort of is) and that put me off somewhat.

Political wherewithal isn't exactly what I'm known for so some of the material goes over my head, but my god does it have some gut busting laughs. Genuinely had tears rolling down my face on occasion!

The Thick Of It is truly an excellent show, it's almost a pity there weren't more but there's always that risk that it would simply get stale if they kept going. If you haven't already watched it then West Wing is worth trying - it is political of course but a lot of the points are American politics so it's quite easy to let them slide if you're not interested. It's often subtle, well acted, humorous, well observed and moving - a couple of the characters are just about as acerbic as Malcolm and Jamie but with a lot less swearing as it's for an American audience.

Veep is very good too, basically the American version but written by the same guy. I keep hoping for a Tucker cameo on it but not to be.

so all of veep Box set is on Nowtv, which is a good introductory/best episode ? - just dipped into S1e1 and (somewhat as commented) is not as visceral/caustic as
the thick of it, hard to believe it was written by Mr Arnoucci, it feels stilted and you feel the actors are waiting for the studio audience to laugh.

Did notice in parallel that the French 'spin' series re-started (more4) , for macheovelic political spin masters, the previous series and hopefully this new one is up there.

I think Veep suffers for being made for American audiences. They'd be OK with showing Malcolm Tucker skinning someone's Granny and wearing her skin, but would baulk at him talking about it in his colourful, flowery language.

I still love his Star Wars description

The one about the ****ing hairdresser - the space hairdresser and the cowboy. He's got a tin foil pal and a peddle bin. His father's a robot and he ****ing **** his sister. LEGO: They're all made of ****ing LEGO.
:D

Please fully star out all swearing in future. Thank you.

Stick with Veep, you see the characters really start to develop over time as the actors get into it. They are absolutely brutal to eachother despite the language not being quite so... colourful.

Dan Egan and Jonah Ryan are brilliant, especially when together - a true hate hate relationship.
