So I just watched the 80's blob, a bit cheesy and not a bad movie, bit a different faster and far more acidic, hostile version of the 50's version.

I was thinking though how would The Thing (Carpenter's) fair against the Blob? The Thing assimilates cells and takes over. But the Blob is basically an omeba, a single celled organism, highly acidic how it consumes food.

Could the Thing assimilate the Blob fast enough, would the Thing adapt to acid, or would the Thing be digested before it could assimilate the blob?

Each Thing is a seperate entity, so I'm unsure if a Dog Thing could absorbed on purpose, that the Blair Thing would be able to adapt to the acid (unlike the Borg)

The answer is 42.

Don't mind me, just passing through.

I can't really remember either film, was The Thing some kind of hand or was that the Addams Family?

What about The Birds v Arachnophobia? would air supremacy be enough?

They probably are but some films rarely get shown on TV anymore and I don't really do DVD's. :(

I remember watching a film called Pulse as a kid but never seen it on TV, The Fog is usually that horrid new remake now.

The Thing would assimilate The Blob.

The 2011 film is a prequel to the 1982 film. The 1982 film is a make of The Thing From Another World which I think was made in the 50s.

I've recently discovered The Spread which is a comic series but is kind of like if The Thing got to the mainland.

The Thing from the 80's was a very good film

I hid behind pillows when stumbling across The Fog when i was a kid late 70s or early 80s.

The Thing wins tho.

I'd go with The Thing winning. The Blob absorbs its prey while The Thing takes over cells. As as soon a The Blob starts absorbing The Thing it would be taken over.

Sure about that? The blob consumes it's victims with vritually xenomorph like digestive juices.

This is a way more interesting confrontation than Batman vs Superman which we all know Superman would realistically win in about 2 seconds.

I guess it comes down to whether The Thing could take over the cells of The Blob or if the acidic nature of The Blobs cells would destroy The Thing before it could.
Can The Blob actually be taken over? The Thing needs a living, thinking being to host it, does The Blob actually think or just work on instinct?

The blob is only a problem for a few days once a month. As long as the thing attacked on the other days then it would win.

"ribbed!"

i'd say the Thing would come out on top. granted the Blob is predatory and consumes its vics ["vritually xenomorph like digestive juices"...uh, ok, not really thouhg, more like normal digestive juices] but given Thing's resilience to most things except fire, we don't know that it COULD be consumed. both great films/creatures though.
