A member of the public calls for the resignation of MP Andrew Gywnne and 2 police officers show up at her door!

What is happening in this country!?

The police admitted no crime had been committed, so why was they there?

Here is the Blackbelt Barristers take on the mattee;

*were

It says why in the article [well, the Telegraph one at least].

So, to break the article down more succinctly.

The rise of genuine threats against officials means reported incidents get investigated more diligently.

A complaint of harassment had been made against her.

The police have a duty to inform her that a complaint has been made against her.

Police inform women of the complaint, get her statement and tell her she's not in any trouble and hasn't broken any laws.

Gutter press make click bait article. [The main outlets running with this seem the Mail, Telegraph and GB News]

Profit???
There is no crime. The police aren't obligated to tell someone about a complaint. They should tell that person complaining it isn't a police matter.

Harassment is a crime, that was the complaint made to the police.
It wasn't harassment. The police said that themselves.

The police say they are, right there in the article, I even bolded it for you
So? Use your own common sense.

Have you actually read what she wrote? She's called for resignations of people from the WhatsApp group.

Interesting how the police didn't visit any of the people in the group despite it being reported that people were making racist and antisemitic posts.

So harassment isn't a police matter now? Ok, who would you complain to if you were being harrassed?
Again the police said no crime had been committed. The woman even asked if she continued to do what she did what would the police do. They replied nothing.

Would you be happy for the police to come knocking at your door for calling for Farage to resign? So they can give you some "advice".

Yea, looks like the guy was trying to weaponise the system. Thankfully we don't have the Stasi or "thought police" (no matter how much the right wing dregs like to bleat on about it) and the police after doing what they have to (ie: look into it) said there was no problem.
You've literally just seen the thought police knocking at someones door, and you think it's ok as they were just following orders.

Please stop calling this thought policing as its not that.... It stops becoming a thought when it is verbalised or written. Of course "Thought Policing" is far more dramatic and click-baity (like your title is)
You take things too literally.

A more accurate title to the thread would be

"Police receive complaint about harassment, look into it, find it's unwarranted and take no action"
They knew there was no crime at the station. Yet came out.

If Farage complained about your posts and even though you broke no law and was just giving your opinion, I think you, like every other person, would be intimidated if 2 police detectives knocked on your door to have a word with you.

IF the police have a duty to inform this granny that someone complained about her, knowing no crime was committed, what is the purpose?

The information is useless. It serves no purpose.

The guidelines need changing.

It amazes me that there are people on the thread trying every angle to excuse police intimidation.

It's either because they can't accept the reality of the situation, or it's purely because it's originally a daily mail story.

Within the multitude of my interactions with the police, this wouldn't even register on my 'concern-o-meter'.
The police have always been good to me too.

But I don't like this Americanisation of the police were now they have very little autonomy to use their own common sense.

You are probably right that they are now compelled to make some form of action.

I'm just saying this isn't the path they should be prioritising in my opinion.

Bit unusual this happening at this time as usually now the police are shown to be raiding a well know drug den (which will be opened a week after the bust) and stopping Brad on his E-scooter in the town centre, while delivering his food and p's and done just intime for the upcoming new community charge to show us that the police are there twice a year and how your extra 10% this year for them and the commissioner will make no difference as seen in previous years.
I'd like to know what the police commissioners actually do? I've only ever seen them being the mouthpiece for the police.

I thought they were supposed to be an oppositional figure to the police to put forward public concerns.
