What the hell is a FOMO?

FOMO = Fear Of Missing Out... it refers to inpulsive/compulsive (and often uninformed) purchasing of new and shiny things.

The prospect of a much cheaper card trading blows as in the 6800 and the 6800xt beating it properly for the same price makes me look at price to performance and think actually, maybe this 3080 isn't all it's cracked up to be now.

All of the benchmarks so far clearly show that overall, the 3080 10GB and 6800XT are on a par... so how do you get "beating it properly" as a conclusion? Have you look at the information available? The main difference imo is in VRAM, 10GB vs 16GB. Also currently Nvidia have the DLSS 'advantage'.

Also if another place stocks the 6800xt or even 3080 I have a 20% voucher.

Ahh... so you don't already have a 3080?

What I mean is, if the 3080 did win out, I could just buy it again as I have a 20% Voucher for another place (they given it as they initially oversold 3080 so cancelled my order)

But yes I currently have a 3080 FE in my rig.

It's not impulsive, I needed a better GPU for 4k as my OLED is 4k. But I'm also always looking at value and getting the best for my money.

Sell it. Use the voucher to buy a 6800xt. Pocket the difference. Unless there is something else you will use the voucher for.

Edit: even if the 3080 edges it slitghly you will get a really good price because of the voucher.

The thing making me hesitant is the thought of if these sell out in second and I'm waiting WEEKS for a GPU. It's taken 5 weeks for 3080 already.

I think your pricing is off. The 3080 and 6800xt rrp are very close. Unless you bought an OC edition

Agree, everyones pricing is off. The next available card on nvidias site is the £719 Zotac, which is £79 above MRSP or Overclock edition as you refer to it. As I typed this some ninja editing was messing with the quote.

Stick with the 3080, why are you stressing over it? Lol. If you stress over things like this, keep the 3080 is a decent card!!!

I just don't have bags of money, so if I can get equivalent performance and saved hundreds, that's what I like to do.

And someone wants to buy it for £850 (legit)

That's pretty much the definition of impulsive, you bought a gpu knowing that a possible alternative was being announced a month later.
Luckily you have a voucher and the device you have is demanded enough that you won't lose any money should you choose to sell it.

Of course it is impulsive FOMO stuff. You bought a 3080 and were lucky enough to get one in the initial batch and now instead of just sitting back and enjoying it you are now worrying about switching to a 6800XT, which performs pretty much the same overall but has more VRAM (which may be useful). Then, if you don't like 6800XT you're going to buy the 3080 back again? It's your money and you can do what you like, but it's still a bit daft to read, especially as you don't seem to be making informed purchasing decisions.

If you do decide to buy a 6800XT then why not use your 20% voucher to buy it and keep hold the 3080 for the moment until you receive the 6800XT so you don't end up with nothing. Then, sell your 3080 for what you paid for it, pocket the change and just get on with enjoying your games instead of worrying about what you don't have that may or may not be better. :)

FOMO
  1. anxiety that an exciting or interesting event may currently be happening elsewhere, often aroused by posts seen on social media.

I would sell if I was offered 150+ on top of what I paid and praise the IT gods that I dodged a bullet in the process :p.

I have the same voucher too, it doesn't work on electrical sections (computer software or parts, or tvs etc) and seems to be only allowed to work on clothes, so forget the voucher it's basically useless.

It does, you should contact them. I bought my 55" OLED TV and got 20% off with it (voucher still works after as well).

Well sell it on then sounds great to me. You seem to get stressed about value here, I like a bargain myself but I would rather own a hen's teeth FE 3080 (if that fitted my needs, which it would) or pocket the two hundred, continue to play on my vega56 until I could get hold of a 6800XT for £625.

His response annoys me for the reason there are people out there that buy these things and act like this, where there are plenty of guys who can just about afford one, are desperate to get the tech and have to wait in a queue while FOMO guys and scalpers are dicking about.

B+U for @TNA

It states this on the voucher so can only be used once and people that have tried to use it on electricals were told it's not valid there but valid on other products .. being clothes only by looks of it. So not sure how you will get more than one use out of it and how they allowed electricals:-

States this if you read the voucher rules.

Just so you know, it’s valid for one use only, excludes Financial Services products, delivery/installation charges and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer code.

Where does that state you can't use it on electricals? I even asked someone who works for them and they specified it works for electricals. I bought an OLED 2 weeks ago with the code and gained 20% off.
