Well it's rumoured that it's sapphire who's after designing the reference models together with amd. If it's true I can't see a reason to skip the reference cards. I'm sure the actual pulse and nitro+ will be even better but don't think you would see any flaws in referent design

as i am liquid cooled what i want this time around is a much higher power limit without bios modding the card manually.

reference looks superb for air users, even without the reviews, it’s probably AMDs best ever air reference cooler.

It's just a slightly modified 7 shroud... In fact im going to be controversial, I like the classy shroud on the 7 better.

One of my friends got a 3090 for him and his Mrs.

I was surprised.
Surely 3080 is sweet spot?
I guess 3090 is if money doesn't really matter? Then fair enough.

But anyone looking bang for buck it's the 6800XT or 3080 surely?

Going to be trying my luck with 6800xt on 18th.

If I get one I'll upgrade from a 4770k to one of those amd mobo+cpu bundles that increases it further.

Looks like I'll be switching from Intel +nvidia to amd+amd

I'd rather not pay double and loose 10-15% performance and upgrade every generation.

Only exception was getting a 1080Ti instead of a 1080 because the 2080 turned out to be so bad.

If I don't get a 6800xt I'm considering a 1080ti

Will save lot of cash

My gpu is 4 years old. And It only cost couple of hundred. Crazy. These new cards are going to have to last me as long as the new consoles to be worth the price

A used 1080Ti with a questionable amount of life left in it? I wouldn't unless it was for an exceptionally good price.

What resolution are you aiming for? 1440p? 4K?

Sounds like super resolution won't be something we get any time soon ... https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/amd-targets-1440p-for-ray-tracing/

Of course, if Nvidia does have a ray-tracing advantage, it could come in part from its DLSS technology, which allows games to run at lower and less demanding resolutions, but be scaled up to mimic the visual fidelity of higher resolutions. Bergman confirmed that AMD’s answer to DLSS, known as FidelityFX Super Resolution, is coming. But it seems we may have to wait some time.

“We are committed to getting that feature implemented, and we're working with ISVs at this point. I’ll just say AMD’s approach on these types of technologies is to make sure we have broad platform support, and not require proprietary solutions [to be supported by] the ISVs. And that's the approach that we're taking. So as we go through next year, you'll get a lot more details on it,” Bergman says.

More details ‘through’ next year doesn’t sound like it will be available terribly soon. Exactly how important that will prove in the broader battle with Nvidia, well, we’ll have to wait and see.

A 5700xt is on par with a 2080 in AC:Valhalla
So, were will a 6800xt land?
:D

yep most of the Valhalla performance data out is pre driver - Nvidia was a little late with Valhalla in releasing their driver
I don’t think this was tested on the new Valhalla NVIDIA drivers released yesterday. In any case, something is wrong with this game. The 2080 is only 7 FPS slower than the Ti while 3090 is just 4 FPS faster than 3080

You guys don't hesitate in lying don't you? As I have no way of understanding how you can contort/misunderstand the term "day-1 support for Assassin's Creed Valhalla..."

So again, if the 5700xt is on par with a 2080 what will a 6800xt do?
:D

Because it's looking to me, and I'm just making a guess, that a 6800xt has the potential to be on par with a 3090 in this title. Again, it's just a guess on my part.

Yeah I'm beginning to believe this. It could be 2H 2021 before we have enough supply for these things to sit on shelves.

If you can pick the halo product each gen then its a good time to source one dependent on how you see it. e.g. for me the 1080Ti was a great example as it lasted a good while whilst offering you 2-3 years worth of decent performance. I think the 6080XT or the 3080 could be the same. The issue is like with Fox's 2h2021 timeframe - people who had one from day one lets say October 2020, will have had 8 months roughly of playing/using the card before that person sourced one. Thats quite some time considering each vendor brings out either a refresh or a new product on yearly tick/tocks.

How the observation has flipped since the Vega days! ;)

Yeah who knew it would have been a compute focused card :P

These wont be long lived products,
The GA102 was a strategic error which will be generously recalibrated in early 2022
That's my view.

Yeah .... for money :D if NVidia releases Ti or super variations of the 3070 / 3080 before March (after most users having to wait for stock) they will annoy a LOT of customers.
